Not AAU1: Cessna Citation Longitude Flight Dynamics Modification Project

Thank you that explains it very well. Now i can really enjoy your fantastic Mod. Keep up the great Work!

There is really no need to back up any default aircraft folder. If you ever mess up an aircraft in the official folder, simply delete the folder and re-download the aircraft using the Content Manager.

I’ve done it three times already. It’s easy to do.

I had Longitude several times missing in the hangar but was present in the download section as Installed and I think it is the layout.json that - sometimes - is causing the error,

I have a suspicion MSFS authenticates files in OneStore (ones in a while? or maybe just checks the premium subscriptions? ) which causes rejects of the install to not show in the aircraft list (this is a bug) .

Deleted the Longitude installation, then download again, exit, copy the layout.json, restart, repairs this. Pain in the neck, makes no sense, but it works - up till now -.

No, that’s not it. There’s no authentication or anything so complicated. If you take a look at the layout.json file all it does is tell MSFS which files to use for the Longitude INCLUDING the version. If the version changes and the layout.json file points to something that no longer exists, the simulator can’t load the aircraft.

As long as you have the correct layout.json in the Official Longitude folder the aircraft will show up. When Asobo pushes an update, sometimes files in the Official folder are changed and then the layout.json file will need to be updated. It’s pretty trivial from a software engineering background.

Just keep aware of when the Asobo updates come and look for an update to the Longitude mod a few hours/days later.

Hey Dakfly – just now seeing your thread about your fixes for the Longitude – where can I get the latest/greatest mod?

Here you go. Check back here for information on future updates and discussions on the topic of mods to the Longitude.

Hi Dakfly - I just wanted to thank you for your great work. I bought the Premium Edition because of the Longitude and would not use it without your mod. Awesome!

Since a while back you asked for ideas for future work: would it be possible for you to do something similar as you did for the Longitude for the 787? The only ā€œopenā€ aircraft remotely close is probably the A320 and I am not sure whether that is a viable starting point. Just an idea.

Thanks again.

A close relative of the 787 is the queen, 747-8. Is that encrypted too? These two aircraft are the reason I got the premium (the Longitude and the 787-10). It would be awesome if anything can be done for it. The 787XE mod is there but there hasn’t been any update for a while now.

Thanks. Great work

I think I’ve touched on this topic previously. The 787 is encrypted, as you know. The problem with the 787 is that the complexity of the systems (fuel pumps and valves, electrical, lighting, avionics, etc…) would likely render an attempt to perform a similar sort of modification a disaster. The Longitude has a ā€œsimpleā€ enough model to puzzle out that it was a do-able project. The 787, if anything like the 747 or A320, will have much more complicated entries for some of these systems where I fully expect any attempt to produce a new set of cfg files from scratch (and/or ā€œborrowedā€ from one of the other unencrypted a/c) would result in a hot mess.

I am actually working at present on revising the flight model and engines parameters for the A32N, with an eye toward submission to FBW (and some further testing and scrutiny of some of the IRL A320 drivers out there) and possibly also for publication as a stand alone mod for those who are not comfortable using the more complete and complex avionics of the FBW mod community’s output.

The 747-8i is not encrypted and would also be a good target for modifications projects. I’m aware of another modder who’s spent considerable efforts improving the autopilot functions for the -8i (the result is, I believe, available at flightsim.to), but I haven’t had a chance to download and test out his results. And there is another project that’s improved some of the avionics synoptics and some systems and aircraft performance - don’t know whether it has been updated to be compatible with the latest version of the sim, but it looks like there are recent edits (Saltysimulations project). I had previously reached out to the fellow working on autopilot about his efforts and whether they could be applied to Longitude, but I at the time he said he had a full plate between academic pursuits and keeping up with the 748. A few months ago I toyed with some of the 747 engine parameters and flight handling which generated some favorable results in terms of fuel burn and eliminating some problems in hand-flying performance and with autopilot induced oscillations. I haven’t come back to it nor have I tried out Asobo’s more recent versions of the 748. If I had a good set of performance charts and specific operating limits and parameters for various aspects of -8i operations, I could certainly make a go of improving the model for more accurate performance, handling, limits, etc… much like I’ve done with Longitude. However, without type specific documentation, modification attempts are based largely on conjecture and the limited amount of publicly available information. If I were able to get my hands on this level of detail, then it might make sense to team up with some of the other modders out there for the 748 to create a more complete modifications package. I think it would yield some nice improvements.

O.K., I understand. It would find the 787 a more attractive target, but I understand that you do not want to poke semi-blindly into a ā€œhot messā€.

Good luck with the 747-8i. I will certainly try it out if you get your hands on it.

Why is my Longitude always moving/rolling from left to right, when I am in NAV mode and FMS? I fly with Track Ir or sometimes VR and this feels so wierd, moving around the whole time

It’s a bug in the underlying autopilot code that the game uses. I would say the roll control is over damped but that’s just my opinion. Asobo has made many attempts to bring this under control without success.

Are you using the stock Longitude or the mod?

I was able to eliminate this behavior in the mod package by making adjustments to the Nav hold PID values in the ai.cfg file which can be used to manage autopilot behavior for a number of functions. Early on during my mod project I didn’t see effects from modifying these values, but with some deeper study and testing I found value in adjusting these. Curious if anyone is still experiencing this Nav hold oscillation with the V1.51 mod. On a separate note, I don’t know why Asobo doesn’t seem able to make these same adjustment before publishing updates. Once understood how the PID values can be used it’s relatively easy to solve these types of issues.

I use the V1.51 mod

And you still get NAV hold oscillation?

Nav hold, FMS, AP on, YD on, wobbling around from left to right. I don“t have it with hdg mode on

Hmmmm. Kinda wondering about what you’ve got going on there. Can you first confirm in the aircraft selection menu for liveries for Longitude that you have the FDE Fix V1.51 showing in the aircraft variation name field. Also, reference cruise speed should show 476 kts in same menu.

Tribolex, are you using the Modern flight model or Legacy?
