I figured it out, you need to reach cruising altitude . Then you will edit the fuel mixture to a lean mixture ( i use 20%) and this gets me to the location with plenty of fuel. You need to make sure however that in your assistance settings that you turn off the auto mixture assist as this wont allow you to edit the fuel mixture if enabled. Reach out if anyone needs help!
