Not shutting down applications that are started by MSFS 2024 at sim startup

Is this issue already reported? If not I will post a bug report.

Example: RealSimGear device interface software is started up (by the sim) when the sim starts up. The application is shut down correctly when the sim is closed IF no aircraft has been loaded. If an aircraft has been loaded, then the sim does not successfully stop the application when exiting the Sim, and the application is left in a state where it has to be Task killed.

This issue continues into 1.3.10.0.

Same here but not all the time - Ill have to see if I can figure out whats triggering it sometimes - Iā€™m on Steam version

Hi

Not sure this is a bug, per se.
Applications started by MSFS are closed by MSFS when MSFS closes normally. There is a bug already reported [1] where MSFS silently crashes when you click the ā€œreturn to desktopā€ button. Itā€™s not a very visible crash because, well, you were about to close the sim, so expected it to close. The downside is that it does not close the apps.

I still upvoted your report, and a gentle reminder that you might have to vote for your own report here

Cheeers,
K.

[1] Examples here, here and here. Itā€™s a bit different, some users are seeing freezes, other like me have no freeze but a critical error in logs / event observer.

Really appreciate this, it resonates with what I am observing, there is a silent crash when this occurs. Thanks for taking the time to provide that insight.

Uninstalling the nVidia App (not the driver) which is causing failed sim starts for some, also stopped the crash on exit events for me.

Interesting thanks for sharing Iā€™ll try that

Didnt work sim does not shut down I had to Quit Steam then wait a bit for Steam to ask me to shut down 2024 - then wait a bit and it shut down sim - so it must be beta issue never had this issue before beta no big deal it will get sorted out

Some good news after removing Geforce app my sim consistently today was 4 mins to main screen after uninstall app 2mins thats nice

I figured it out you have to alt +enter before leaving game - full screen leaving the game is the problem folks try it - probably a driver issue - this was on last driver not the new one I donā€™t like the new driver for 40 series cards - clouds were awful - thanks

Report back please - let me know if your on Steam or MS Store - thanks

You want your sim to load faster uninstall GeForce app went from 4 mins to 2 mins

Putting MSFS 2024 into windowed mode does not resolve the issue on my end.

If MSFS gets stuck during the closing process and msfs .exe file is still running, the external application assumes that MSFS is still active, so the application remains running as well.

I also had this issue for some time, but I havenā€™t experienced it recently. Unfortunately, in the meantime, I reinstalled NVIDIA, MSFS 2024_beta and Spadnext, so I canā€™t determine what specifically caused MSFS to hang during the closing process. FYI, I reverted to driver 566.14 and did not install NVIDIA app or Geforce Experience.

MSFS crashes as it is shutting down, there is no MSFS process at that point in the task list. Itā€™s the RealSimGear application that remains in place.

Curious, how did you revert your nVidia driver? Unfortunately I have installed the nVidia and latest driver. But I have not performed any tasks to apply DLSS4 to MSFS 2024.

Before uninstalling the driver using DDU, please download an older version of the driver and save it to your disk.

During Nvidia driver installation, select Nvidia Graphics Driver.
On the next screen select Custom (Advanced) and click Next.
Choose Graphics Driver, PhysX and Perform a clean installation ā†’ Next.
After installing Nvidia driver, restart PC.

Does this happen with any aircraft loaded or? Did you rename your Community folder to see if the sim still hangs on the loaded aircraft? The changes that it is a Nvidia driver issue are very minimal, itā€™s probably something else that causes this.

Throwing paint at the wall here, but, could this be why my PC fails going into sleep mode after sim sessions? This only ever started happening since installing MSFS 2024 and running it the first time, and happens every time after I close the sim for the day/night. Happened before the beta and continues to happen on the current beta.
Could totally be a coincidence.

Hi

There are some reports of users having ā€œsilent crashesā€ when they exit the sim. For them (itā€™s different for me), the sim closes but in the background, thereā€™s still a flightsimulator.exe process running (they need to kill it with CTRL+SHIFT+ESC).

I wouldnā€™t be surprised if such a process was responsible for the deactivation of /energy-saving / screen-saving modes on Windows. You might want to look if the process, in your case, is terminated.

Cheers,
K

Hi!

Iā€™ve noticed this too, and terminating it from taskmgr is what I do ā€” sometimes, though, I close the sim normally, let the computer rest for a couple of minutes while it closes different related processes, then put it to sleep and it still ends up shutting down. Itā€™ll hang in that purgatory state of trying to go to sleep for several minutes before it gives up. This may very well be related to another application and I have a few on my ā€œlistā€ to muck about with lol. I do have a lot of addons that are standalone executables that launch either with ā€˜24 or FSUIPC, soā€¦ could be anything at this point.

Definitely will report back if/when any developments occur.

Appreciate the insight! Cheers!
