I usually don’t get many CTD’s but here lately I have begun getting a few. I have notice the CTD’s are more frequent with the default Kingair 350 and the A321 NEO. It’s really not very often but I’ve gotten about 3 within a week. Everything is up to date, drivers and the sim itself. Has anybody else been getting any CTD’s by the way I have the RTX 3060 TI.
Yep can’t make over a 2-3 Hour flight without a CTD. I have reinstalled drivers, windows etc. PC is not overclocked and is liquid cooled. No mods. I am lost aswell. Memtest passed twice. I have no crashes or any problems with any other software.
Seems to have something to do with loading the next area, traffic weather terrain on longer flights? I can literally leave the sim open for hours sitting on the ramp. If I fly a couple hours away it will stutter and crash almost every time… It persists for all A/C in the sim for me.
did you tried clearing the indexscenery folder ?
I had lot of ctd after update, after reading this thread, I don’t had any issue since CTD just after a small update
try to delete the content of these 2 folders (before starting the simulator)
C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes
and
C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\FlightSimulator (Don’t worry, they will create themselves when you start the simulator)
I haven’t had an in-flight CTD in over 6 months now. Being selective over what Community addons you use I think is a key factor in this.
The same could not be said of my system, the same hardware, and software about a year or so ago.
I’ve had a few lately as well. I installed one module from the marketplace, and after one flight boom. Uninstalled it and was fine for awhile. Then I installed a community module, and when I enabled Foveated Rendering via OXRTK, the PC would freeze. After yet another complete rebuild I was tempted to stay with vanilla, no world updates, no marketplace modules, but my favourite modules I know are stable. Round and round we go.
I’ve had no problems with long hauls. Although I use mainly the default planes, 787-1000, A321 NEO. I read many days back that turning off the Bing Map data helps with CTDs and long hauls.
I haven’t tried that but I think this may have something to do with mine. My CTD as I researched it was happening almost at the same spot on my flight from Galveston to Lakeside in New Orleans. I’ve had this similar thing happen to me around Arizona at Phoenix Sky Harbor to. I think there are some bad apple indexes out there. Have you ever been taxing on runways and hit the imaginary invisible brick walls. I’ve found one at KMIA and KATL.
My last update was the Market Place Red Bull Challenge. I generally never do scenery updates unless I actually fly in the areas. I hardly ever fly in Europe so I don’t update those. Now I tear a whole in the air around the Pacific, Caribbean the southern costal areas in USA. LAX to Hawaii is one of my favs.
I will give this a try!
If you turn off Bing Data how does the scenery get updated?
I’m having the same issues. I deleted C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\FlightSimulator. The C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\SceneryIndexes does not exist on my pc. I bought the game from Steam. Not sure if there’s a difference.
I have operated the sim since Day 1 and, until the last couple of weeks I had NEVER had a CTD. Not one. Now, I’m having multiple occurrences almost every flight; last night there were 3 in a 25 minute flight. I have added nothing to my Community Folder in months, for the last 3/4 months I have operated only the G36 Bonanza and all of the flights trying to investigate this phenomena have been over the same route. The two variables for me have been to integrate AAO and X Touch Mini with my Honeycomb controls and I changed my CPU about 4/5 weeks ago (Ryzen7 5800X to 5800X3D) but the performance was not problematic until around the time of the last updates .
Incidentally, having never experienced a CTD before I had assumed that it would be sort of ‘catastrophic’, that the sim programme would shut down, the PC would be back to the desk top and that further operation of the sim would require a restart. That isn’t what happens to me, the PC reverts to the Windows Log In page, click on “Sign In” and I’m back in the sim, click on ‘Resume’ and I’m back in the cockpit where I left off.
as a steam user, I have been deleting the same folder you reported C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\Flightsimulator
don’t you accidently push Window key ( ⊞ ) + L ? (disconnect account/ Lock windows)
No mate, definitely not. I don’t use the keyboard at all whilst flying, it is well out of the way. Everything is on binds to the Alpha/Bravo or assigned buttons on the X Touch. Thanks for the thought though.
maybe a privacy protection with a timer thinking you are away from your pc ? setting → account → sign in option
looking to this article https://ugetfix.com/ask/computer-is-locking-automatically-how-to-fix/
issue may be deeper in the registry or driver related :-/
Fix #1 Modify the Windows registry to fix Computer is locking automatically
- Click Start button and type Run to open the window.

- Locate key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Policies\Microsoft\Windows
- Right-click Windows and choose New, then Key.
- Set Personalization as the name.
- Right-click the new key and choose New, then DWORD (32-bit) Value.
- Set NoLockScreen as the name.
- Double-click it and open properties.
- Change the value data for 1 and choose OK to save.
Fix #2 Add system unattended sleep timeout via PowerShell
- Use Win and X keys to open PowerShell with administrative rights.
- Type the following in and hit Enter powercfg -attributes SUB_SLEEP 7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0 -ATTRIB_HIDE
- Restart the PC.
there is more workaround suggested, not sure if it s fine to download their suggested app, maybe running a “sfc / scanow” may be usefull . if you are going to edit registry think to backup it before any change
hope it will help
My instinct tells me that it is some sort of conflict between the Bravo AP functions and the AP functions that I have assigned to the X Touch Mini. If I replace the Honeycomb controls with my Thrustmaster stick and throttle I don’t seem to have the problem. I am working through disabling the X Touch Mini assignments one at a time to try and identify if my instinct is right and which assignment might be the culprit. Additionally, my MSI MB disables the sleep modes when selected to ‘Gaming’
Here is what I always get on crash for a log.

Sorry about the late reply. Correct it doesn’t get updated but everything else does. I’ve done it and it doesn’t affect anything.
I going to go ahead and clear the contents as you stated. I don’t know what it is but its only Texas when flying I get CTD. I guess that what I get for being a OU and OSU football fans. LOL
