November 2nd, 2023 Development Update Blog Discussion

I think after this, with things showing as available, actually in the MP, then being pulled. It’s time for me to quit this sim for a few months or even altogether. I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds on add ons, with stutters, crashes the lot. This is the final straw for me on Xbox. Disappointed

No response from MS or Asobo? No feedback from Just Flight? This is scandalous! If you’ve paid for it, it’s yours - no matter what! They can’t take it away from you! Otherwise they will have to pay you back! And they will have to do it immediately! Scandalous… just scandalous!

Lets not jump the gun. We have not heard an official response yet, but im sure we will soon. So lets wait for an official response, shall we?

Why?? Why is nothing ever straight forward with this sim/game?. Fed up with people continually sticking up for them… Majority are PC users that do. US XBOXERS spend probably more to use this, no free mods etc… Let us have a voice

Your a lucky one then

Currently on a testflight  hopefully we will get a quick response from MS/Asobo or Justflight

Just Flight responded here - Just Flight have announced the Fokker F28 Fellowship - #623 by CajolingRain44

It looks like it was just a mistake on Microsoft’s part to very briefly release the Xbox version this time. Hopefully it’ll be coming out for Xbox broadly in the coming weeks.

I know what I’m about to say may fall on deaf ears, but I have to say it.

As noted in the official discussion last night, I feel that yesterday was finally the straw that broke the camel’s back. I understand that JustFlight hadn’t approved the F28 for release to the marketplace and that they asked that it be pulled back while they complete testing, especially for the Series S. The fact that it had erroneously been put in the marketplace, to begin with, is what troubles me the most.

After all the promise of the WASM fix, we’ve reverted to what I call “lean Thursdays” in the marketplace. Lackluster offerings from questionable devs who never seem to update their products after being released, the same old 'night sceneries", and an overall feeling that the marketplace is somehow a terrible joke being perpetrated on the Xbox community. I say that because we have no other options when it comes to getting content for our sim. We’re months behind on getting updates for the products we already own, and when we do get those updates, we might still be behind.

I’m at a crossroads with this sim right now. In the past, I’d take the financial loss and just delete the sim from my console and never look back. Instead of doing that, I’ve decided not to spend another dime on anything in the marketplace except for livery packs. The Xbox community, in my opinion, will never have the same experience as the PC community, and I’ve had to make peace with that. I have to be okay with what I already have in my virtual hangar and not waste any more money. I’ll take whatever free stuff we get soon, but I can’t do any more than $5 (or less if something is on sale). I also won’t be buying FS2024 even though there are many things about it that I would like to be a part of.

Despite what the team might say in future dev Q&A streams, I have lost faith in the future of this sim on the console. I would normally say that it’s up to you to prove me wrong, but let’s be honest, your effort is going to be lacking.

I want to close by saying that I am generally thankful for the opportunity to have the sim on the Xbox, as it’s re-ignited my love of aviation which was part of my childhood. I also understand that everyone involved in the MSFS project is human and is prone to mistakes. I hope that this gives the team the chance to reflect on how best to proceed in the future.

Hi,
Some improvements for live weather are mentioned in the wishlist. Are these improvements already applied on the server side or will they be included later? This improvement is not mentioned in the SU14 notes.

All things considered, clunky as it may be sometimes with Marketplace ingestion, we do have it pretty good on Xbox right now dude. And it’s going to only get better. Sorry this Thursday wasn’t what you’d hoped for.

I think it might help to step back and look at the greater picture.

Flight sims have been around on PC’s for 40+ years. MSFS 2020 did something no one thought possible, to bring a flight simulator to a console. Not only that, they managed to solve a very tricky situation and provide WASM support on a console, also unheard of before.

It’s still really new, for everyone, including developers. Given that there are even high-fidelity airliner’s available on the Xbox, it is quite remarkable.

So things are better than ever for those who want to sim on a console today. It might not be on par with PC’s in every aspect yet, but things are progressing fast!

Sorry, we don’t. At least, I’m not,and I’m not the only one. With all due respect, I don’t know what you like to fly. For me, those are airliners from and too mostly 3rd party airports. I completely lost interest in doing that because of the horrific shape this Sim is on Xbox right now. Even Asobo 747 and 787 are a mess these days. Stuttering, black screens and CTD galore. Couldn’t even start a flight during SU14 beta because of these issues. Who is to blame? 3rd party devs? Microsobo? I don’t really care anymore, after 3 years of suffering.

It’s a disgrace, and I’m really fed up with it.

But then again, looking at the gaming industry (on Xbox, games published by MS) as a whole, it’s no surprise. 2 of their recent blockbusters ( Starfield and Forza Motorsports) came with many, many bugs as well. But MSFS is in a total different league.

Yeah lately my flight missions mimic yours - almost always from high-quality payware scenery airports and quite often airliners - main difference being I tend to favor PMDG’s 737 for airliner missions, which admittedly seems better optimized than post-AAU-enhanced 747 and Dreamliner. Haven’t seen a black screen in the latter two aircraft since SU14 beta, but definitely still notice chugging and framerate drops worse than other aircraft, leading me to believe it’s just teetering on the brink of collapse  the AAU retrofit on those planes IMO is in need of some refinement to address stability and performance, and if those Boeings are your preferred aircraft, I could see them being problematic.

Yes, from what I read here on the forum the PMDG aircraft are doing a much better job. Unfortunately, I don’t have them in my hangar. Maybe my “rant” post from just now wasn’t totally fair. My opinion was based on, indeed, the 747/787 and the LVFR Airbus range of aircraft. Those are underperforming big time at the moment.

But based on experiences I read with the PMDG products, perhaps I should give them a try…

High cost of entry, tough to blame anyone who looks at $70USD price tag and says “no thanks” - but with that comes a very stable, tried-and-true product that is very well represented on Xbox and has done a lot of work to build my confidence that I can plan a night around flying and not end up disappointed. Just Flight’s BAe146 is right up there too.

It can be to do with man utd for all I care

What I said earlier has touched some nerves, which is good. Let’s take the F28 as a further example of what I’m talking about. I’m thankful that JustFlight wants to make sure the aircraft is stable on the console, which (to me) is the hallmark of a quality developer. Now, let’s say the F28 gets released on the console mid to late December (which would kinda make sense because people will be on vacation for the holidays and can enjoy it). While the testing of the F28 continues up until it’s approved for release on the console, JustFlight will likely update the aircraft on the PC (various fixes and whatnot). Nothing is saying that the aircraft that will be released for the console will be the same build version as the PC. Why? They will likely have to make some adjustments to the build for the F28 to be stable, especially on the Series S. So, we go right back into the cycle of waiting for an update on the console to be processed, which likely wouldn’t be released until late January at the earliest. For $70-ish does that make much sense?

I do agree that overall the sim has improved on the console since it was released. My thing is that for all the steps forward (high fidelity airlines being one of the major steps forward, which gives us more options than the standard aircraft that were released with the sim) we seem to take too many steps back. There is some work being done to make things even better (the “improved A320neo” being one of them) which I do appreciate. As another post stated earlier about the big picture, I do agree with that comment too.

I initially started MSFS on the Series S. Over time I discovered that the Series S doesn’t have the graphic power of the Series X. This became clear to me when flying at night and there would be no runway lights when I was on final approach. I decided to step up to the Series X a few months ago, and now the runway light problem has gone away. I have nearly 1000 hours of flying on the Xbox (although right now in the sim I only have credit for 486 hours, but that’s a whole other issue). I honestly want MSFS to be better than where it is right now, but maybe the complexity of it all will keep it from being much better, I don’t know. Instead of throwing in the towel and walking away, I’m going to stick it out with the understanding that I have no expectations anymore. I can’t get excited about Thursdays because week after week it’s been disappointing. I never know when I’ll get updates to the aircraft I already own, and who knows how current that build version will be. The only option I have right now is to vote with my wallet, even if I’m only one person doing it. I don’t want to get to the point of voting with my feet and leaving the sim for good.

I do understand that bringing something like Flight Sim to the console was a massive undertaking, and I do believe that the team is passionate (to an extent) about MSFS and the community in general. I want them to be successful in this endeavor. I love being a part of a virtual airline on FsHub because it gives me ideas of flights to do. I guess I’m trying to express my disappointment about the current state of the marketplace without getting “ugly” about it. Constructive criticism is generally better than the other kind I reckon.
