Sundownersim’s new EDDI - Berlin Tempelhof scenery recreates the “Mother of all Airports” in its Cold War prime: the legendary 1.2 km curved terminal.
The scenery features a highly detailed recreation of the iconic 1.2 km curved terminal, with custom era-accurate high-resolution aerial imagery of the airfield and its surroundings.
A LIVING 1970s APRON
Over a dozen static aircraft with period liveries and individual registrations bring the ramp to life:
Pan Am Boeing 707 + five Pan Am 727-200s
Three BEA Vickers Viscounts
USAF C-5 Galaxy (cargo doors open & closed) and C-130 Hercules
Dozens of period-accurate ground vehicles.
BEYOND THE FENCE: COLD WAR BERLIN
Fly the entire length of the Berlin Wall: segments, corner sections, obstacles and border watchtowers with full period set dressing. Visit Checkpoint Charlie, overfly the famous “spy exchange” bridge, and navigate by the Fernsehturm TV Tower and the Palast der Republik.
BONUS: 3-MISSION COLD WAR CAMPAIGN
Included with the scenery: a ~3.5-hour campaign for the Bo105. Fly a Bundespolizei helicopter out of historic Tempelhof, patrolling the Wall over a divided city. From dawn reconnaissance runs and medevac dashes to covert CIA extractions. (Requires Miltech Mission Hub and the Bo105, sold separately.)
The scenery depicts Tempelhof in the 1970s. The aircraft you describe above are from the period just after WWII, late 40s.
In the 70s, Tempelhof was the main point of entry to Berlin from the West, served through the three Allied air corridors that crossed East German territory from Hamburg, Hannover, and Frankfurt. These flights were operated by Pan Am, BEA, and Air France primarily.
An interesting quirk of these operations is that the corridors also imposed a hard ceiling of 10,000 feet, so all these jets had to fly quite low.
Not initially, the developer (Sundownersim) intended the statics to be a core element of the airport. I’ll relay the message to enable statics to be configurable
It can not be the 1960s, as Pan Am used a different font and title for their aircraft. Back then it was Pan American. It was changed to the shorter “PAN AM” in 1970 with the introduction of the 747-100.
Secondly, the C5A Galaxy came online in the early 1970s.
Finally, the “Palast Der Republik” was not existent until April 23rd, 1976, with construction starting in 1973.
By the way, would you guys be interested in creating Pripyat, NPP Chernobyl and the exclusion zone as if 1986?

Tegel Airport was opened in November of 1975 and with its opening PA and BA moved their entire operations to TXL
BEA didn’t exist post 1974, as that was the year the merger with BOAC to form British Airways took place. Yes, there might have been many aircraft still painted in their original operators livery, but most had a hastily applied “British/British Airways” sticker, like this one.
As said the Palast Der Republik was opened in 1976, thus, if it was pre-TXL it should be under construction in 1974/75 most likely with the facade complete, but still with construction equipment surrounding it.
This actually narrows down the year, the scenery could be set in to 1975, just before TXL took over.
What can be done with the static aircraft is:
Modify BEA aircraft to British Airways in basic BEA livery
Replace the PAN AM 707 texture with an Air Force One livery, which would be more authentic as AF1 frequently came to THF, rather than TXL.
In the long term my suggestion would be to add Tegel and Schonefeld and populate them with static aircraft bearing PA, AF, BA, IF, SU etc. liveries.

I saw those incredibly noisy “Super One Elevens” myself at THF during the early/mid 1970s.
The BAC 1-11s were operated in conjunction with Pan Am’s 727-100s out of THF to provide the IGS. (Intra German Services) between West Berlin and the Federal Republic of Germany. (West Germany)
BTW, Pan Am did not operate 727-200s until after their move to Tegel airport.
Feels really Cold War-era immersive even without any vintage interior for airside immersion!
Meanwhile, Gaya EDDT even though it’s been closed since 2020 IRL and no 2024 compatibility planned unlike their Vienna but works OK manually copied from my MSFS 2020 Community Folder in MSFS 2024.
The Berlin Tempelhof mission pack does not show up in the Mission Hub for me. I own the
Bo-105 and I use on Xbox. I have tried to add it through the add mission pack box but it doesn’t recognize any pack name I type in. Does anyone have any ideas?
