NOW RELEASED BN2T Turbine Islander & Defender From Blackbox

Hi I am interested in this aircraft as I do love the old islander.
However I don’t like the synthetic world view on the round instrument gauge. Can some one advise if this can be turned off?
Thanks in advance if you can help.
Best wishes.
Bob

I have 2 questions. 1st question, I have the a bravo and noticed my condition levers only go down to min. Is their a way to get into fuel cut off? 2nd question, is their a simbrief profile avail for the 2T?

A screenshot showing synthetic vision on and off so I guess the answer is yes.

Im sorry … what else are you expecting it to do ?

It comes with a full illustrated “Tutorial” showing the correct operation and procedures, including checklists etc..
Full POH Are available from many online sources and Not supplied with the product due to copyright issues

Yes it can be turned off

… you said, we had turn it up to see the cabin lights (and turn the Cabin Lights switch on, of course). So, I checked it, and it does not. Don’t worry, I am sure, you have more important things to take care of

With apologies I’m finding it hard to understand the issue here
The Cabin lights switch controls the General Overall Red lighting (Via rheostat) For the overhead lighting … It works just fine and acts as a dimmer for the associated lights..

The Panel lighting is again controlled by Rheostat on the lighting panel and controls the Instrument Post Lighting..

The GNS750 and Garmin EFIS Instruments have their own built in lighting controlled via their individual menus

I can only assume that by “CABIN LIGHTS” You are expecting the rear passenger section to be illuminated ?
but they unfortunately do not

Not at my desk to check but there is a way to do that. There is a trigger point that makes the model appear. You just set this really high, and the model won’t appear.

Similar techniques are used to make luggage or cargo appear, and in one plane the 3D model that appears changes as the weight increases. Very cool to see, and something that could be adapted to passengers as well. Below a certain weight a child’s model appears, and above that an adult.

Hi
Thanks for the response
I will find my email offering the discount and bye the new Islander.
Best wishes.

Just finished the tutorial flight and I like it !

I put aside my PTSD from the Shorts tutorial where I was down to 400’ before I saw any sign of lights or the ground - that couldn’t possibly happen twice could it ? Could it ? Guys ??? Spoiler alert - it was 350’ this time … Never a dull moment on Blackbox tutorials !

Got to say up front those Garmin gauges are sweet ! Couldn’t figure out how to zoom them but they’re lovely.

First little hiccup was when the tutorial wanted me to summon a GPU but the ground services menu was blank. Could well be something I’ve done, I don’t ever use ATC. (I can’t stand those grating harsh american voices in every remote village on the planet - I’m currently parked at a small airport in rural Afghanistan and have just been given the weather by an extremely american woman. Gah!!). So I just moved on and started the engines.

Next was the ‘tablet’. Finding it on the toolbar wasn’t an issue, Flow is great for things like this. It contains the checklists. The ONLY in-sim checklists. In a static document. It’s in a small font, it can’t be zoomed, and if you resize the window the checklist document resizes with it. If you want to use those checklists say goodbye to half of your screen because that’s how big you have to make it. So I won’t be using those checklists. I’ll go to the last tab, which the tutorial says is “More” and points me at some real world manuals. Nope. It’s called “Docs” and contains a copy of the tutorial. Pretty sure it’s just a pdf viewer so VR users can follow the tutorial.

Luckily I have enough screens to have littlenavmap and the tutorial open on their own screens plus the sim, so moved right along. The first time I tried I could see maybe a quarter of the way down the runway, so restarted the flight to re-roll the weather. Second time was much better and I had a most pleasant flight looking at the almost 100% clouds above and below.

ATC were coerced into letting me descend when I needed to and the plane flew that rather interesting ILS approach flawlessl NO WAIT LOOK AT LITTLENAVMAP IT’S FLYING IT BACKWARDS !!!

The approach calls for you to overfly the airport then fly away for ~12 miles at a slight angle to the runway and turn 180 left to line up on the ILS. The BN-2T flew runway heading away from the airport then turned 180 right to fly the slight angle back to the airport. This is almost certainly an FS2020 problem and nothing to do with BBS, but it was an issue given I was at 4000’ in 100% cloud.

So off went the autopilot, and suddenly I’m hand flying IFR in filthy weather watching the plane on LNM because there’s nothing else to look at and followed the ILS feather all the way down to 350’ where I finally saw the runw- NONONONO THOSE ARE APPROACH LIGHTS LOOK OUT FOR THE TREES approach lights and staggered over the trees and whammed down on the runway, where ATC started shouting at me for landing without clearance. Sorry babes, aviate navigate communicate, you’re last on the list.

It was actually a heck of a lot of fun ! And I’d made enough notes that I could then go somewhere with more normal weather and more normal approaches and have another flight which went flawlessly and will be the first of many, like I said, this plane is fun !

Glad you enjoyed yourself

YES FS2020 ATC can be a proper pain! Hope it improves with 2024

But if you do turn it off, you lose the autopilot annunciator functions, which are only available in 4-in-1 mode.

They’re touch screen - try tapping the zoom level, then turn the smaller knob. I know this works for switching that knob from Heading Bug to HSI Course.
