NVdia driver from 580.88 causes mainthread to saturate (50ms) when using framegen

Wait., I shouldn’t have V-sync on with FrameGen..

How is that exactly helping?

Screen tearing badly even if i cap my fps in game to 30 (x2 fg is 60). Getting a new monitor soon so might solve that. Do you get tearing with VRR monitor?

On a daily basis I play with vsync and TAA, FG-off, FPS capped to max 60 and I don’t have tearing issues.
I’d recommend you check how MSFS behaves with vsync on and no FPS limit at all.

This issue isn’t fixed on the lastest driver

I’ve just updated this morning to the latest game ready driver restarted pc and it’s the same

Is there anything else I need to check is ticked to make sure it’s back to normal ? I have sync off frames set to 40, ms sits around 19/21 with 340 told 150olod and mostly ultra settings but once dlss frame gen is flicked on I get 50ms

4k oled tv 120hz if that makes a difference

Thanks

used duu to delete new driver then installed again. Updated to latest dlss swapped. Choose the latest dlss version and sorted. But graphics now don’t look as sharp. Could be my imagination

Only thing I can think is msfs hasn’t updated to the 4.5 and that’s causing the issues ?

yeah i think still an issue for me. Got a new monitor and still happen.

I haven’t tried the new driver.

Still 577.00 and having a stable experience.

Not sure how long I can last like that.

@apeduke1806 is your FSR experience still ok? For me on my setup it just doesn’t look as good.

I saw another thread suggesting limiting frames to 30, and having frame generation do the rest of the work. This also doesn’t work for me as I get GPU VRAM overload warnings.

So im capped at 60, fgx2 and on 577. Some lovely flights over to Berlin and Luton to Glasgow with a go around due to an appaling landing attempt. Loving it and living in ignorance with the old drivers

I am back to 577 too. FSR works fine but i got stutter at landing. Fsr is actually smoother to me.

Gotcha.

I know the feeling.

Let me put it this way. I have one set of settings that work for me. I’ve messed around that much that I know what that is now.

It worked fine until 591.74 was installed. Then it changed. Nothing else works for me now other than 577.

Heard nothing back from NVIDIA

That’s the weird part, exactly what i am experiencing. The moment i installed 591.74, i couldn’t go back to any previous drivers except 577 without that mainthread issue.

My prediction is, NVIDIA probably won’t get back to me.

However they are launching up to 6x Frame Gen in “the spring”.

Not that I actually want that, but if they’re updating the frame generation model, then it might coincidentally fix what we’re seeing

Looks like we are not the only ones too.

I think this probably isn’t as noticeable on other people’s systems. People that don’t use FG. People that have a 4090 etc have a different experience.

So it’s a smaller subset of people who are affected because they use a specific set of settings on a specific setup. I.e. us.

found another video of a youtuber doing a test flight on DLSS 4.5 …. Look at the mainthread ms: https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/ltplNOO3zdY

We are not the one with this issue.

Let’s hope we have a driver release that relaxes the main thread with FG on!!!

I found a workaround/combination that lower the mainthread… I just updated to the latest driver again (want to try it with other game). On the MSFS menu, make sure you set a Max FPS cap. (So use 30 fps if you want to use fg x2.). I capped at 20fps and use fg x4 to push the final fps to 80. My mainthread stay in the green now. It will also work with other multiplier. see below:

Also I did not use v-sync.

Not perfect but it does help.

I would like to try this. I think we can tune it like you have done there.

To calm my fears of updating to the new driver, I saw your comment yesterday that you returned to 577.00.

When you did that, did it fix the mainthread issue again?

Just want to check i can go back to 577 if my experiments with the new drivers done work out well

yeah i re-installed 577 approximately 10 times… lol

So very repeatable then. Ha ha.

Hi @apeduke1806

Thought id give you an update.

After 1.5 weeks of good performance on 577.00, I saw some deterioration. Saw the mainthread creeping up, but not the same and not as bad. Had a bad flight last night with classic bad stutters on the approach.

So tried 591.86 today. Can confirm this has the same issue as all the other post 577 drivers. Mainthread 32ms. I tried one of the tricks off this forum too, which is to cap frames to 30, and let frame generation x2 take it to my TV refresh rate of 60hz. But the graphics queue suffers, and I keep getting the graphics resources warning, and really jerky camera movement.

Back to 577.00 I went, and its all good again.

So repeatable this is.

Not a single other setting changed anywhere with all addons still active at the same airports in the same plane with the same livery.

Anyway, thought this might be worth documenting

Any update on this as mines now gone back to the high main thread using dlss and I know I’ve been told my system should be fine with out it but for the life of me I can’t even get 60fps solid with no frame gen
