No ideas, but I can confirm that I had a similar problem with my PCL using 576.40 in FS2020.
After getting the “Your graphics device has encountered a problem and the application will exit” popup on three flights in a row (accompanied by everything freezing in VR) I reverted back to 576.28 and all was well again.
