This forum has been amazing to help get this simulator enjoyable and I thank everyone who has contributed and helped me learn about this amazing program and the hardware that it takes to drive it.
In the past I have never given much thought to video drivers making a difference but after reading this entire thread and spending hours tweaking, I wanted to say that I was wrong.
I always upgraded the Nvidia drivers as they became available and this last one to 460 was not good at all. Major slow down on the entire video process. I reverted back to to 457.30 and the performance gain was staggering for me.
Up at least 35% across the board and the stuttering while there is not very frequent at all.
System is:
3900XT
GTX 1080
32 GB of 3200 Ram
Aorus Motherboard.
Running in custom mode 2560 x1440
Rendering and detail set at 100 most everything else set to medium.
This was tested at Addison Airport on Tarmac in a C150
Rates are mid 50’s on the ground and in the air.
They drop to mid 40’s in the A36 Beechcraft.
Hope this helps
