I notice that the NZ Southern Alps are displayed looking as if it is mid summer rather than mid winter, as we are down here right now. Is there something I can do to fix that?
is there snow on them IRW ? we are having a Warm winter, and I hear there is little to no snow yet.
in the north Island we have none
Not as much as Iâve seen it, Iâd probably call it âcappedâ but last week there was a wee cold spurt where they were more covered (I get a pretty good gander at them daily), if you look at the cams from Mt Cook Aerodrome etc itâs pretty tussocky up there, weatherâs bit rainy so hard to see the surrounding mountains.
Itâs a pretty common complaint thought that the snow coverage isnât right both ways - it was coated in January in sim. Irony being that we did actually have week or so in January that due to a cold spurt where they were snow blanketed again!
I wouldnât think that FS2020 shows scenery changes in real time. Live traffic, yes. Live weather yes. But surely not a live snow cover feed! If houses or even subdivisions are built IRL I notice that it sometimes takes up to 2 years before the FS2020 scenery is updated to show it. Basically a 2 year delay. Thatâs not what I am talking about. What I am thinking is that there is a winter/spring/summer/autumn default scenery setting somewhere.
Can someone enlighten me?
Ah you are on FS2020, apologies thatâs my faulty assumption. I am unsure in that case.
In MS2024 there is a live snow cover layer (based on the meteoblue data used by the sim) but it puts way too much snow everywhere (apparently, itâs quite low fidelity information) and seasonal layers as a fall back (that include snow and colouration). Some commentators say that without live weather on it looks better because it doesnât have the live layer. Itâs kind of skewed IMO by the trees too, the sim depicts a very âEuropeanâ deciduous set of trees everywhere, but we have a lot of evergreens.
Thatâs very interesting. I wonder if that âLive Layerâ for snow cover was a new idea when FS2024 was deployed or if it existed in the 2020 version.
