Octavi IFR-1

I got an IFR 1 for Christmas. Has anyone found ways to make it more compatible with larger commercial aircraft like the 320’s, 300, or 737’s? I can get the radios and barometer to adjust, but it would be nice if I could also adjust the heading and altitude.

After fixing the issue I had and finding a way to (temporarily) mount the unit, I had my maiden flight in a 208 today. After about 3 minutes I realised that my home deck cockpit would not be complete without it. Truely an amazing little item.

In reply to Frank: I want to use it in the CJ4 as well so I’m gonna look into programming it with SPAD.NEXT. It is recognised, I already checked that. So that should work.

Hi!
Apparently you should be able to program it with Mobiflight. Unfortunately I have no skill in that sort of thing.
I have one too. I can get altitude to work by pressing ”AP” and then outer knob controls altitude (at least on the FBW A32NX).
I got one and thought that would certainly be people that made a Mobiflight module for A32NX :grinning:, but haven’t found one…

Mobiflight is stupid simple to use. It’s all tabbed pages and dropdown boxes. The Dev is active here, on the official forum, and the Discord.

Maybe it’s simple for IT people. I’m an old pilot so probably not as simple for me :grinning:.
But, since I’m retiring in may (ending a 30+ aviation career) I’ll have some more time to learn programming :+1:

It seems there are so many skilled people around so I just expected some to have created a model for the Octavi for airliners.

I really like the Octavi - it’s a clever device. For GA aircraft (GNS430/1000) it reduces the use of mouse considerably. If there was a model for airliners it would manage the FCU.

Excerpt from Otavi’s latest newsletter about what they are planning for 2024:

MobiFlight changes: Many of you want to use their IFR-1 with airliners. While this can already be done today, there are some limitations in MobiFlight that we want to overcome to get the most out of the device. That includes being able to define which context modes have shift modes and which don’t.
More profiles: Once we complete the previous item, we’re going to create more profiles to share on our website. While it’s possible to create profiles yourself, we totally understand how not everyone has the time and interest to do so.

Oh - That’s great news. Thanks for sharing!

As a stand I use Edge Core Pro magnetic holder attached to my Honeycomb Bravo.

I recently bought the PMDG 737-600 and unfortunately, not even the autopilot buttons of the Octavi work with that plane. Hopefully this will be improved with the announced updates.

Check this one out! The guys from CockpitCrafters (.com) have developed a bracket for the Octavi IFR-1 and it’s available at Aerosoft for Preorder. They are known for their pretty solid touch brackets for the Honeycombs. It seems like this bracket is also made to be used as a tablet holder. Pricing (compared to similar products that look less fancy) seems really fair – I pre-ordered two! Can’t wait to get my hands on them!

I just grabbed an IFR-1 – a fun little gizmo!

I know next to nothing about using Mobiflight, but I know that’s going to be my next destination. how straightforward might it be to adapt it to the Carenado M20 Mooney’s altitude preselector, or the JPL c152’s seemingly custom AP unit?

The ability to change XPDR modes also seems to be “missing” so far.

The configs seem to be entirely code-based and easy to parse, so hopefully as long as we can figure out what the input names for MSFS it should work, right?

Hi guys, does anyone use the Octavi with the blacksquare TBM 830? I’m trying to get it setup and it’s quite temperamental. Won’t control my 2nd Garmin, use the tds 750 as my main god unit, nor will it change my heading or course, even if I press the dial first to put it into the shift mode.

Just trying to figure out what I’ve done wrong as apart from alt and vrs nothing else seems to work.

I’m surprised this thing just continues to hide in plain sight. They’re finally back in stock so I’m giving one a go, needs to jump the puddle though.

Now that the Fenix A320 can be connected to more sorts of peripheral hardware, can anyone share their experience of using the Octavi IFR1 to control the FCU through the Mobiflight profile for the Fenix?

I bought this aug 30th after looking at other options and I think this will be the best msfs gadget other thank my yoke. So I purchased for delivery to Canada but has no tracking on delivery.

How long does shipping to NA (or Canada specifically) usually take and do we get anymore emails before delivery?

Not of direct help to OriginalDagger, since I am in UK, but it may provide some context to know that my order on 2 Sep is purportedly being delivered UPS by close of day Mon 9 Sep. Hopefully, someone in NA can give info specific to that continent.

Hi, i am thinking to buy one…
One questions,
how do you do to alternate between screens with it in Garmin g1000??

It actually arrived in 5 days! I was away at work, but cannot believe it got here faster than other items I ordered from within Canada! Adding up all the delivery charges, it made an expensive addon, but so far, worth it!

Good to hear your IFR1 arrived quickly. Mine turned up last Monday, as promised. I’m using it to control the FCU on the Fenix A320, which means employing the beta version of the MobiFlight Connector. Seems ok, and I have managed to reallocate one or two switches, better to reflect the positioning on the real aircraft. I have also made a somewhat amateurish overlay (a work in progress) to ‘Airbus-ize’ the look of the IFR1. I’d post a pic but it’s not obvious how to do it on this forum.

I was of course tempted towards the WinWing 1:1 scale FCU. But getting hold of it seemed an even greater challenge than ordering the IFR1 from Germany, fraught with the possibilty of excessive delivery charges and customs duties. So I gave that the miss.

Maybe I just uploaded the overlay pic…we shall see when I post this!

I just got mine this morning, along with the mounting bracket, and watched a bunch of YouTube reviews. Will use it with 530/430. One thing I can’t find the answer to: how do you use it to change the range on the 530/430 display? That’s a major function!
