I program the missing range/zoom to XPDR mode (see Mobiflight “Input” section). You can use toggle mode or just instead of transponder digit set (usual mode), which in most cases you anyway do once per flight.
I use it in its standard form and have long gotten used to the routine to think which function I intend to do before reaching for it. I don’t want to have to re-program the entire thing. If I use a mobi-flight profile, does it start with the ‘default’ settings first so I can simply add range to XPDR shift toggle? Sounds like a good place to put it, actually, no different than where heading is implemented. Really it’s the only thing ‘missing’ for my needs, and 2020 has no native assignment for it. I’m SO sick or scrolling in and out of zoom all over the place with a mouse trying to adjust range…
I was even looking at the flightsimgear stuff and really to replicate what this does you need 3+ panels totaling over $1K. Where a mode push here simply changes it into another entire panel of functions.
I asked Octavi about G3X support and they sent me a preliminary Mobiflight profile, which works great. I had not used Mobiflight before, but it was easy to install and run. Hope they will publish the profile on their website soon.
