[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: Norway Constitution Day

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both sim versions (MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024) and both the PC and Xbox platforms.

FLIGHT DETAILS

May 17th is Constitution Day in Norway, the national holiday of this beautiful Nordic country! To mark the occasion, our Community Fly-In Friday group flight will see us visit some very scenic Norwegian sites, including a departure from Norway’s second-largest city of Bergen and then a flight through the majestic Sognefjord.

For the best experience, MSFS (2020) players should install the FREE World Update V and World Update XV from the in-sim Marketplace.

Optional Payware Add-on: Simmers may choose to use any or all of three add-on airports on this route: ENBR Bergen Flesland Airport by Salvuz and ENSG Sogndal Haukåsen Airport & ENSD Sandane Airport, both by Orbx. These purchases are entirely optional and are not required to join this fly-in.

MSFS 2024 Pilots on PC, PS5, and Xbox can import the flight plan from the new Flight Planner tool at this link.

You can find instructions on how to load a flight plan from the Flight Planner website to your in-sim EFB on your PC or PS5/Xbox console on our forums here.

We will be starting at ENBR. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Bell UH-1H Huey, Cessna 172, CubCrafters X or NX Cub, De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, Pipistrel Virus, or any aircraft of your choice with a cruise speed of 110 knots or greater.

I think I have access to most flights. It’s just a matter of slowly working through them. It’ll probably go a little slowly because Forza Horizon 6 just got released.

Maybe a stupid question but PS5 pilots cannot join? Announcement talks of PC and XBox explicitly.

Not a stupid question. Everyone is welcome to fly, but the multiplayer systems between Xbox/PC and PS5 are sadly not connected. Since none of the hosts have a PS5, you are absolutely welcome to join the flight, but you’ll only be able to see other PS5 players. You also won’t be visible in the flock of players flying along on the stream.

Struggled a bit today with performance in SU 5.1 beta, also weird I could actually see all the other players that were seemingly not in SU5.1 beta.

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Best Flyday ever in a Beta, since we were on the regular multiplayer servers. I know this isn’t intentional, but I’m glad this wasn’t changed before the Flyday.

I had expected serious trouble with the new, stronger wake turbulence - not because of CPU load or framerate, but with the physics interactions of so many players in close proximity, using very different aircraft (from an XCub to the A400M) mixed with helicopters, and probably many players blissfully unaware of the new destructive powers they have recently been given.

But I loaded the flight with wake turbulence enabled, and a wait-and-see attitude. Moments after loading in, my helicopter was violently flung into the air by another nearby helo and crashed back on the ground, failing numerous systems and forcing a reload of the flight. This time, I turned wake turbulence off.

I was still surprised by the utter carnage on display during the event, with various small planes being flipped on their backs. I tried to keep my helicopter - still a danger for everyone with wake turbulence enabled - away from other aircraft, but briefly forgot about this on the first touch-and-go airport, immediately causing a stationary XCub to raise the tail and smack the prop into the ground. Sorry.

I was in a 172 that got flipped over whilst on the ground (twice) and also hurled into the ground on the last final approach. Utter carnage indeed! Think I’ll turn wake turbulence off on the next fly-in Friday

Really enjoyed the flight though with live weather. Norway is spectacular.
