Official Discussion: Reno Air Racing

Working now… no need for game pass… checking Market place

UPDATE: Nothing in Market place at the moment

So this raises a question: will it wipe out our existing installs? Or can we install it separately alongside our regular sim installation?

Surprised I just got in. I had to quickly read some post on how to join.

Basically just open Xbox Insider to see what previews are available, and click to join.

Today for inscription
Tomorrow for installation

I just decided to check again, and my “device” (PC) was added, and now I am in the BETA. Woohoo!!!

Hope it is a little less buggy next time.

Hi, I pretty much only fly the A320 and C172. Which plane(s) will be good for racing that I can start getting familiar with today?
Thanks!

Extra
Bi Plane
Small Jet

I just on the spur of the moment tried to get in on the PC version, and against expectations managed to get into the beta.

As Jediknight mentioned, the Extra, Pitts or a small jet are probably all good bets.

The GotGravel Vertigo is an excellent freeware modification of the default JMB VL-3, if you want a fast and agile racer, look no further.

But if you want something a bit slower while still enjoying aerobatics and racing, the default CAP-10 is a great plane to get your feet wet in. Personally, I think if you only fly the A320 and the 172 the CAP-10 is going to be great middle ground between something like the 172 and the Extra. If you jump straight into the Extra from an 172, getting used to the roll rate in the Extra might be a dizzying experience. It will also get you used to flying tail draggers, which handle much better now after Sim Update 6.

For a light jet aircraft, I would recommend the MB-339 by IndiaFoxTecho. It is payware, available in the in-game marketplace or other retailers like simmarket and Orbx Direct. It looks great, sounds great, handles great and includes an “airshow” type variant equipped with display smoke and appropriate liveries. It’s a very “accessible” jet, if you just want to press Quick Start and get in the air, you can do that without really knowing anything about the aircraft. Of course, you can do everything manually and fly “by the book” if that is what you prefer.

Also keep in mind that you can save different controller “Profiles”, so for example, if you do find the roll rate to be too much in the smaller planes but just how you like it in the A320, you can create a second controller Profile with lower roll and pitch sensitivity and switch back and forth between your “Airliner” and “Aerobatics/Racing” profiles without having to manually adjust your sensitivity settings each time you change aircraft.

Slight aside, but this advice should be taken to heart by many of the simmers on this forum, based on too many blithe complaints that one plane or another “feels wrong” or “the flight model is garbage!” Personally I think it’s because they have gotten used to one nominal control configuration in one or two favorite planes without thinking about whether that profile is equally suitable to another aircraft.

Oh yea. You’re right.
Don’t jump straight into the Extra.
Try another, slower tail dragger first.
My EXTRA, P-40 and SPITFIRE have their own set of settings.

Get that tail in the air during takeoff.
Easy on the acceleration…

As an FYI, I was able to still signup for the BETA as of about noon central time, so about 2 hours ago.

Will the terrain dust kick-up FX by planes flying at low altitude also apply to water surfaces? Please make it so!

Any ETA on sound barrier vapor FX or wing vapor FX for jets?

Thanks for that info. I wasn’t going to bother as I’m a Steam user but just joined and now waiting for the download to unlock here in Japan, when it’s released.

Could you confirm what someone else asked, if we install the cut down MSFS 25gb RR test version, will that disrupt our steam install of MSFS at all? Just checking!

Thanks!

Does anyone know what time zone the target playtimes are based on?

Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing.

What’s the difference between the Full Collection and Expansion Pack?
Only the more liveries for the Full Collection?

its been explained multiple times, but basically each plane has a unique 3d model + cockpit + perf.
its not just paint

Anyone who is signed up to participate would do well to watch the developer’s QA on the topic.

I’ve spent lots of time in the Vertigo and Pitts Special with the freeware flightsim.to KRTS/Reno addon. It truly is a blast cutting around the pylons. I can only assume that with the design of the multiplayer experience that it will up the challenge tremendously. Maintaining altitude and navigating the course is a challenge - regardless if it’s biplane or unlimited. I look forward to the opportunity of this preview flight and to participate with you all. May my dust be ever fragrant for you.

Thank you, I wasn’t sure
