[Official Discussion] Top Gun: Maverick DLC

I was just going to say the same. I used a detente switch on the Bravo throttle travel.

Darkstar meets thunderstorm. No, not a MSFS thunderstorm. A real one.

I finally figured out how to fly the Darkstar, flew 99.99% of the mission but missed the official completion. Upon landing, I straighten out the bird on the runway and applied the brakes. I’m seconds from a full stop and a storm here arrives. A flash of lightning nearby and my power goes off for a moment. The laptop battery keeps me flying momentarily but the modem has to go through its long reboot and internet handshakes. I lose the game. Oh well. I enjoyed the flight anyways.

MSFS; I think your Top Gun Maverick features are fun. Hope to see the movie sometime.

You’re not missing out, really
I flew the entire challenge, landed on the destination runway, full stop, apply parking brake and even shut down the engines. And I didn’t get any completion. It’s still sitting as challenge not completed after going back to the Maverick/Main Menu

Found this for you. Hopefully it helps

Here the only thing that has grown is the money you can spend in the marketplace

If we talk about graphics, (when photogrammetry wants to work) you are absolutely right

if we talk about “engine”, I challenge anyone to say that progress has been made from the old FSX:

  • real time wheather
 still a mystery
  • ATC
 useless
  • AI
 just bothers you
  • In the old FSX you could open the Flight Planner and restart IFR without leaving the game and having to reload everything from scratch
  • Replays and Visuals I’ve already talked about

I would say pretty good for a single core game that’s 20 years old :kissing_heart:

If F3 triggers the afterburners, how do I bind this to a button on my HOTAS. ■■■■ it Asobo please make these function easier to bind to hardware. No body want to use the stupid Keyboard and mouse to flky a plane. Come on!

Does the carrier in the landing challenge move at all? Rock?

If he is talking about Dark Star the hash key activates the afterburner as mentioned in one video. So that would be shift + #

This is what you do, go into controls menu. select keyboard, theres a field to search by key. Press F3 and everything that is bound to F3 shows up. Now find the one bound to F3 that is for afterburner, look at the command, now click on the joystick entry and assign the command that is bound to F3 to a button on the stick. Voila
or

You could just search command afterburner and apply it to a button. either way

Thanks for the Explanation on how to search Keyboard functions. Is there a list of all the commands for the Hornet and Darkstar? Sure would be handy. Also, I have the NWS enabled on the HUD and STILL the plane will not steer. Rudder Peddles work fine and move the Vertical Stab (Rudders) just fine. Any Suggestions?

No list that Im aware of, in the darkstar do not push the NWS button this only works on the F/A 18, if you ’
push the button’ on any other plane you will loose steering.

A list would be nice though, I know there are several commands that have multiple possible uses and depending on whether its bound to a button or a wheel it may or may not work ;p

Beyond the NWS issue. I find it hard to believe Asobo would just dump a plane in with no instructions whatsoever on what does what. I’ve had better and quicker success in DCS. I simply do not understand MS/Asobo’s logic. Binding my suite of hardware and controls has never been more frustrating. A simple list would go a long way to ease the tension in the room. Makes me look forward to X-Plane 12. At least key bindings are much easier.

It moves slowly.

Sorry but I cannot get why it’s actually hard for you to bind your controls properly?

You first select the device you like to assign bindings to, then search for like “afterburner” and you find some TOGGLE AFTERBBURNER which is generic for all aircraft (for Darkstar and F/A-18E).

Assign a button or whatever to it and be fine? At least that’s what I did on my setup.

From my knowledge there are not many bindings available exclusive to the Hornet - I only know about “NWS to limit” and the “G-Limiter” (paddle switch).

Same here.

1st attempt I was all over the place with navigation but recovered to break my landing gear on touchdown.

Probably because I sent most of the time looking out the window.

2nd attempt perfect on the route all the way. Perfect touchdown but no challenge completion.

Oh well let’s see what the 3rd attempt brings

Make sure you land on the “Skid Strip” (KXMR) and not on the Shuttle Landing Facility (KTTS) - also stop on the runway.

I just bounded the afterburner toggle directly to my throttle. It only comes on when I hit full throttle, and it shuts off below 80, which I think is how it really works in fighter planes.

Hate to ask this but is there any easy way to know that the afterburner is on? Can’t seem to get above Mach 1 with any consistency. I hit the afterburner toggle switch and have my throttle maxed, but something doesn’t seem right.

Is there a gauge that I should be looking at or a fuel flow I should be seeing?

When the F-18 plane is selected to fly in free mode, is there a way to select the avatar with the Maverick case?
I have looked at the options, but I only see the option to choose a generic fighter pilot (male/female).

Fuel flow should* be indicated on the IFEI below the left DDI.

*assuming it’s operational and working correctly in the MSFS Hornet, not noticed.
