My anecdote of one, since so many respond to serious points with anecdotes of one, is that my kid tried the freebie on the MSFS Xbox and immediately went back to Halo. It was more fun for him playing Halo.
As it appears to me:
** Asobo/MS are paying third parties to produce various addons (Volocity, Pelican etc) which are now available for free. MS/Asobo say users are not obliged to download them, and because they are being produced externally it does not interfere with work on the many problems associated with the core sim.
** Some problems associated with the core sim have been present since day one, for example ATC. I believe Working Title (who are now offically part the the team) have been tasked with sorting out the ATC. I also believe they said they will work on this towards the end of the year, when they have got through a list of other items, but Iām not holding my breath.
** Asobo/MS are keen to widen the scope of the simulator - hence the introduction of VR, the inclusion of X-box, etc. In the past, all of these have themselves caused new problems for Asobo/MS which are still unresolved. As a result, the internal team are becoming more and more diluted in trying to solve problems.
** Since their alliance with Working Title, I have not seen any announcement by Asobo/MS that they are seeking further external partners to help solve this growing list of problems.
** Some new items that āseriousā simmers have been calling for (in particular helicopters) are expected later this year. Their slowness in incorporating these in the sim have been rapidly overtaken by the excellent (and often free) free third party add-ons (eg H135/H145/R44). I doubt if the offerings from Asobo will match these (much like the default A320 vs the FBW version). They really are too late to the party.
So, despite what they say, their priorities seem to be:
-
Urgent: Introduce new items to the sim which look good on a video, but flatter to deceive. Pay external coders as necessary.
-
Not-so-urgent: Use the internal team to produce new features (often not requested by the majority of simmers).
-
When-we-get-around-to-it: fix problems in the sim which have caused it to be unusable for a minority (but a sizeable minority) of simmers.
-
If-thereās-any-time-available: fix the original problems in the core sim.
The new customers who find their way to this forum may be surprised at the number of problems. I personally now have far more CTDs than a year ago, and I have only maintained my FPS by downgrading my settings. There are a number of work-arounds I need to use to avoid some of the problems.
Asobo/MS should bear in mind: At the end of the day, it is the state of the core sim which will determine the long-term success of FS2020.
Any news will be posted in the News and announcements section. My suggestion would be to consider subscribing to that section. You will get notified as soon as all the other forum members here.
My first idea after Darkstar release was,
can I expect fly route of Columbia in space in future, hope without that left wing leading edge hit. Very realistic ideaā¦
Donāt understand that, why will free high fidelity planes bring a whole load of bugs with it?
Any more than other Aircraft from devs?
I could understand if we were talking about an overly ambitious Sim Update.
I couldāt agree more. Itās because of that English is not my native langue, but you have summed it up very, very good. The bottom line is absolutely spot on.
NO NO NO, thats how you make more Pelicans ⦠silly ;p
I wouldnāt pay $100 for 2 default quality aircraft. Remember these extras are not directly from the devs. They are working to given guidelines and weāve never seen an add-on quality aircraft as default be good out of the box.
That should be forbidden. This is getting beyond funny now.

Oh, I get that. The Beaver is one of those classic aircraft that is best replaced by another Beaver, same as the DC-3 is best replaced by another DC-3. Itās just not the aircraft for me ![]()
I thought this was a sim Jorg and not a game.
Again who cares what people do in their spare time. Ill say it again, you donāt like it, donāt download it. Just move on and forget about it. Personally, this Pelican not my thing. Some people should stop with the gate keeping here because it gets old pretty quick. This sim is a one size fits all platform that only the user can decide how it gets used. There will be cross promotions, and probably some product placement stuff in the future to keep the servers alive. Thatās the cost of having a free live service (yes I understand there is a cost to the base game but technically you can play offline). There are also tons of good high fidelity planes currently making their way into the sim if thatās your thing(not including some free high quality ones coming in the Fall). And if you want to sit in front of your pc flying a unicorn, you can do that as well.
msfs has always been a game when compared to its competitors, sorry thats the way its been since they started having competitors. The diff between msfs and p3d was dramatic back in the day. And even Xplane was a better choice if you weāre into serious simming. IMHO
uuuuuf,
that ship looking soooo big in that stadion, compared.
This. Is. AWESOME!
The DC-3 is the perfect anniversary gift to simmers!
Iāve been longing for a semi-vintage airliner like the A310 since MSFS came out!
Fingers crossed it maintains a quality on par with FBW, if it does⦠^^
NOBODY is saying you canāt have fun. Nobody is saying how you should play the game. Nobody is saying you shouldnāt be allowed to do silly things. Knock yourself out.
The point I, and many others are trying to get across is that the budget that was spent to create this āthingāā¦itās not even a plane, is desperately needed elsewhere. Aka, their priorities seem all weird, focus only on luring new players from an ever wider and more unlikely group. Letās assume this actually works, in time this then keeps shifting the userbase into ever more arcade territory, because guess what most of these halo players arenāt going to be concerned about missing RNAV approaches, but they will yell for race modes, and looping challenges, and MP games.
Do you have the same opinion about them spending money on the world updates, and getting respected 3rd party developers to bring in the A310, the Beaver and the DC3 to the sim for free? There are bugs, and stability issues in the core functionality with the sim, we can all agree on that. These issues need to be resolved but donāt believe MS and Asobo donāt have different budgets and sections for different parts of this whole project. And they are the only ones that know those financial figures (I suspect theyāre doing ok as they keep pushing free stuff two years in).
Unless of course they are releasing the āfreeā stuff to try and appease the crowds that have been posting more and more about real problems not being fixed over the last year or so.
No.
Wellā¦ideally they just create the base sim, the platform. But I understand, and approve of new content that fits into a flight simulator. The 310 might be the first default airliner that is actually worth using. I would have been ok with just paying for that, so in that sense I guess Iām not really sure why they used budget on it.
I guess I donāt understand your point about different budgets. Letās assume thatās true, someone is setting those budgets. Perhaps they need to be adjusted. So instead of contracting the next space ship, they could contract someone like working title, to work on the avionics, or on cloud transitions, or ground services, or the openXR toolkit guys to improve VR, or, or, or
