disappointing that this is only open for people who can fly an aircraft capable of supersonic flight.
there is a community of simmers who fly, with big interests in circumnavigation and fly in the sim most of the time, legs in their circumnavigation routes. with a variety of aircraft and challenges. To be able to join in officially on a circumnavigation, officially with the channel, would be great! Something worthwhile taking part in, peaking interests, in the sim. Its a shame tbh
Capable of supersonic flight is only specific for this event because you want to do legs in reasonable time for working people ±2hours. Other flying Fridays offer variety of aircraft to attend.
I didn’t think of the selection of people that this would fit in for, 2 hr legs etc. that’s accommodating.
The other official fly ins are for others, variety of aircraft etc. I use to take part. I was referring to the circumnavigation idea for everyone though, who could take part also in a variety of aircraft fast enough, airliners, CJ4 etc. Legs could be 300-400nm and it still take a few hrs, but understand that would be a huge undertaking, and a length of time, unsuitable really for a drop in session.
Almost every Community Fly-In Friday event over the past six years has used “low & slow” GA aircraft. For this one series only, we are using supersonic jets because we want to finish a complete global circumnavigation within a reasonable number of ~2 hour sessions.
The total route length for the circumnavigation is approximately 18,000 nautical miles. If we did legs that were 300-400nm each week as you suggest, then it would take 45-60 weeks. To put that another way, we’d still be completing our 6th Anniversary Circumnavigation after the 7th Anniversary of MSFS!
Following the conclusion of this special 6th Anniversary event, Community Fly-In Friday will return to its traditional format which most frequently uses slower GA aircraft for sightseeing and exploration.
Used live time and live weather for stage 5 so I did not see Mount Fuji, but got a nice sunrise instead. 2020 group was scattered a little bit but was nice seeing familiar nameplates nonetheless.
After a one week hiatus, we’re back on September 25 for the next stage of the 6th Anniversary Circumnavigation! This week, we’ll be crossing the Bering Sea from Asia to North America with a flight from UHPP in Kamchatka to PANC in Alaska!
I think the F-14B/D top speed was 2.1 or even less as the F110 has more thrust but its more optimized for low-mid speed and aceleration than the TF30 but whatever:
