Has anyone tested this tool with MFS2020. It worwks for 2024 but MFS2020 crashes when I use it ?
I have got it to work with my HP G2 on windows 11 25h2. I use mbuccia Oasis steamvr driver. I believe it only works with steamvr.
Perhaps you can try it by switching to steamvr default for openxr.
From what I read it seems like only big VRAM GPUs such as the 5090 and 4090 really benefit from this mod, right?
It works great on a 4080. “Gamechanger” is used too often, but not in this case. Increased framerate AND fewer artifacts than SteamVR Motion Smoothing. 2x framegen has minimal artifacts, if any, and the new 3x, which helps in GPU-intensive areas, has much fewer artifacts than Motion Smoothing.
Was testing this a couple of hours today. First impressions are “WOW!!”. Less artifacts, better framerate and it almost looks like Im not using any Framegen-mod at all. But looking straight forward and turning while taxiing, it looks really bad compared to motion smoothing. Not as smooth so too say. Not as sharp and really hard to focus in the distance. Everything else is way better.
What I find a little strange is that FidelityFX runs much better for me than NVIDIA (on a 5090).
It’s more consistent and doesn’t drop frames, unlike NVIDIA.
Is there a set up guide for using with Pimax Play anywhere? What settings need to be used or not used in MSFS2024 VR settings (top of VR settings page) and Pimax Play?
Only thing you need to uncheck in Pimax Play is “Smart Smoothing” and “Lock Frame Rate to Half Refresh Rate”.
And make sure OFXR Bridge is running before starting the VR session (double click on it when it’s running and it will turn green).
In OFXR Bridge settings you can try if “NVIDIA Medium” or “FidelityFX” works better for you. In my case I got more artifacts with FidelityFX. (Like constant flickering on the transponder buttons i C172)
Latest version 2.9.1 working well now in MSFS 2024 with Pimax Dream Air /Sboys/5090. It really enhances the whole experience and makes any form of frame smoothing look poor and out of date. Hope the development keeps going, as finally looks like VR is not such a struggle anymore.
Hi I have just tested the new issue of the tool and It works with FS2020 unlike as my previous test with an older issue.
I confirm - very good performance and nice experience - FENIX A320 RTX5090, testing latest version. Hovewer I use this fork which is aparently focusing more on Pimax HMDs > GitHub - djules75/OFXR-Bridge: Frame generation for VR using Optical Flow · GitHub
May I ask why are yoiu using Sboys with Pimax Dream Air/5090? I guess that goes via SteamVR rather than native PImax runtime… does it bring any benefits to you? I found Sboys way worse when testing a couple of months back…
Tested last night and all good in that configuration, using SteamVR as OpenXR, hitting 90fps with occasional drop, will try the headset at 72Hz this evening, expect really good performance. Sboys driver if set correctly offers way sharper picture at lower resolution. It also offers better motion smoothing with less artefacts…but that now is not needed.
I tried it with my Meganex8k and it wasn’t good at all. The movement wasn’t smooth, the world was jumping instead of moving smoothly. Artifacts were not a problem, at least in the steam gauge plane I tried.
I’m using the 0.2.8.1 version with my Dream Air SE running sboys3 on my 9800X3D/5090 computer. I set a 36 fps limit in MSFS and the mod’s default setting. I must say, this is BY FAR the best VR experience I’ve EVER HAD in MSFS 2024, and this mod is now part of my sim startup stack. For me, the experience is pure VR smoothness bliss with 0 artifacts. I get an occasional fps hit stutter, but seldom at best. The big question here is why aren’t Steam, Pimax and all the other VR devs all over this tech. It’s high time they abandon their meh and now outdated “motion smoothing” tech and replace it with this.
Allright. I just tested it again. After setting prerendered frames to 1 in the NVIDIA Control Panel and low latency mode to off it started working as intended. It’s a very nice experience!
Did it solve the issue that I had, when on the ground, looking straight forward and turning it just blurs whats on the horizon, but with Smart smoothing it’s clear. I think a lot of people don’t test enough to see this. It’s easy to just say it’s the best, smooth and free of artifacts when flying “normal”.
Can’t say I’ve noticed that at all.
These only issue I have - and it’s very minor - is flickering artifacts over some cockpit controls, and sometimes some flicker over glass elements of scenery (although I’m less sure the latter is caused by OFXR).
Performance continues to be excellent and I seem to be staying within memory limits using my 9070xt 16GB.
Older versions had issues, but now much better, most artefacts in fidelityFX, so changed to Nvidia medium and had very good experience [ 50% resolution, as more kills fps - now good text in cockpit and texture not flickering on buildings etc ].
DCS and Flight 2024 has boost of FPS really like 40% [ 5090/9800x3d/Pimax Crystal Super UW using openXR, yes maybe more ram usage, but in my case works better then steamVR ]. Older version OFXR had issues with crashes mostly in DCS, but newest fixed [ djules75 version ]. I could set more settings to high/ultra
need to test other DLSS ver [ by DLSSswapper - to keep maintain better clarity in quality mode, like 5% worser using OFXR but switching to newer improves ]
Much better then smart smoothing [ ASW like ], additional frame is now as should be from the beginning - without annoying ghosting [ really Pimax should talk to OFXR developer and buy/change their smoothing frame gen to this method natively ]. finally after last Quad-view upgrade, the best 2026 game changer ! Like having +1 gen GPU for free - Great job ![]()
I’m must have set something very wrong on my PC. I get 20-30FPS on my PC, which is not a lowend PC at all. It doesn’t seem to do anything at all, if anything I can see lower FPS. I have a 9800x3d/5090/64Gb PC with a Meganex 8K mk II on the latest Sboys3 driver. My settings in MSFS aren’t crazy (LOD 200, and most of the settings on high or medium). I also have to OpenXR toolkit running in the background mostly for the foveated rendering options. In my Nvidia app the low latency mode is off. In SteamVR motion smoothing/reprojection is off. So what could be the problem?
