OK, I'll say it - Live Weather IS working

Also checkout meteoblue.com - the maps have an aviation section. And there is also windy.com

Yes, I say it too :grin:…
Even the clouds base is correct now…
I’ve not verified the true or magnetic wind direction, but if you don’t fly close to the pole…
Noticed a brutal transition once, but only in the distance. Generally, it happens no more than once in a flight.
Noticed few days ago several seconds to load the weather. I think for some people and due to internet connection, it could take several minutes.
(Note that the sim don’t get stuck anymore if the world data are not completely loaded)
Definitely, if some things can be tweaked for improvement, the sim is more than playable, despite of the loud moans here and there and those who roll on the ground in anger like a child.
I Ā« flew Ā» every day since the last update, everything is fluid (seconds of freezing once during each flight for loading data, I’ve always had this) even over NY. Middle range PC maintened clean with 1440 screen. Forced at 30fps.
I would like to notice to high end PC’s users moaning about FPS drops than before the launch of the game 18 months ago, EVERY test performed said that it was IMPOSSIBLE to maintain a good framerate in 4K even with the last GPU 3000 series !
This becomes possible after SU5 but with visual quality drop about which everyone complained !
Now the quality is back, we cannot have our cake and eat it too !
( I’m praying :pray: to not have to complain soon :grin:)
And, definitely too, the ATC and AI are :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: ! Original planes are :joy: but free mods make them :star_struck: !

On Thursday I had Live Weather working over Gibraltar, but the cloud base level was far too low (sea level). So even though the wind, rain and clouds location was correct, the SU7 Bug - that should’ve been noted and fixed prior to release like all the others - relating to cloud height was present.

Don’t need to fly close to the poles for magnetic variation to become significant.

Does live weather include ground snow coverage? There’s no visible snow on the ground here in the UK today in area that had 10cm.

I’m considering whole Canada close to the pole in term of felt temperature :rofl:

If you consider this ā€œworkingā€ then I’m afraid I am lost for words. This is definitely not overcast at 800ft.

Don’t expect to see exactly what a METAR say ! It never happens in reality ! A METAR is an observation at a certain moment at a certain location and it’s replaced every hour. But, in MSFS, the METAR is embedded into live data in evolution. Don’t expect the perfection, it will never happens because it doesn’t exist ! You will have something CLOSE TO the reality, no more ! (and it’s enough). And what you’re showing is broken at 8-9/10. It’s not far from overcast !

yes I understand that, but this is how overcast in live weather used to look (using live weather) just after launch. That’s why I am slightly annoyed. It used to look very accurate.

I’m afraid it can only if data somewhere says there is 10cm of snow just here. This winter, you will see snow coverage in the sim, but not very accurate.

Yes it does. We have currently about 5cm and this is depicted correctly. Check at meteblue homepage if it shows snow cover it should be visible in sim, if it does not show snow cover there is also none in sim.

Yes, but if meteorology begin to be an exact science, data are not sufficiently accurate most of the time. We have the best weather system never injected in a sim, let’s deal with that for instant.

Started a flight in the UK (currently a storm), no live weather. Restarted the flight again without a relog and live weather worked.

Did a flight in South Africa about 3000ft ASL and big fluffy white clouds were dragging along the ground. I know others have said it and I agree that live weather is incorrectly taken as ASL and should be AGL. So it is not working as intended. Some of the effects brought in from SU7 are fantastic looking however.

It’s not ASL, it it was, some people would not have clouds touching the sea.

No, if the clouds are 3000ft above sea level then obviously over the sea they will be 3000ft above no matter if calculated by ASL or AGL. If the ground is 3000ft above sea level and the clouds are set to 3000 ASL as in what I suspect my case was then you get clouds touching the ground.

If you use Navigraph, try uninstalling and reinstalling it and try again.
Has been the issue for a lot of people including me.

now tell us how often forecast models are run…

once a day? 4 times a day at best?

Another UK flight with live weather, from Manchester to Stansted. Mostly cloudy, temperature exact, wind and wind direction accurate and even some snow in the Peak District (though just patches).

There are for sure some tweaks and improvements that can be done (and they have even said that more weather improvements are coming), but this is definitely the best I’ve seen in a flight sim!

Just flew from Farnborough to Edinburgh. Weather seemed pretty accurate all the way up. Battling conditions with storm Arwen. Really windy Farnborough but less windy at Edinburgh since most of the strong wind hit us over night. Take off was tricky at Farnborough. Check that windsock out.

In Europe every 30 min (20 and 50 passed the hour) and in case of significant changes (called SPECI). A METAR can also contain a TREND which is 2 hr forecast. Btw maximum cloud cover is 8/8.

FEW = 1-2/8 octas
SCT = 3-4/8 octas
BKN = 5-7/8 octas
OVC = 8/8 octas
