One of my regrets when we moved from Africa to Canada was that we never got round to going to see the Okavango Delta. This is a World Heritage site and one of the seven Natural Wonders of Africa. The delta is in the middle of the desert, but for about 5 months every year, the Okavango River (which is one of the few, if not the only, rivers to never reach the ocean) floods the whole delta area and turns it into a green wonderland.
This morning I decided to do a flight across the area: this was the route in Little NavMap, and just look at all the small airfields in the area!
And from the air you can see how close together some of them are:
And the sharpness of the transition and the stark contrast between the delta and the surrounding area is mind blowing!
I landed at the little airfield of Santawani. I am assuming the building is just a figment of the computer’s AI imagination based on the footprint on Bing maps but still: very plausible and looks fantastic.
I really enjoyed this trip tremendously! Post COVID we HAVE to go do this in real life!
