Just a tip if you encounter micro stuttering or even a not perfectly smooth experience.
I installed the latest Nvidia driver (from august the 17th) which is advertised to be optimised for MSFS.
The FPS are the same but not as smooth as before.
So I reverted to the old one (446.14) and I got a much smoother experience with VSync OFF.
My GPU is a 2060.
How do you revert back to the prior drivers? I used GeForce Experience to update the driver.
Thanks,
i’m agree with you, i tried both, and the old one 446.14 is better fo MSFS
Control Panel -> Uninstall current driver -> restart -> install old driver (make sure to select custom installation and check "perform clean installation -> restart -> enjoy
I’m using Version: 445.87, also smooth…
Are you using Windows 10 2004?
Yes I am
You’re a genius! Thank you, @INoooch. I went to Nvidia’s website and downloaded 446.14. The sim is now running much smoother than before!
I was wondering if 2004 is not great with the latest Nvidia driver. I’m running 1903 with the latest driver and it’s very smooth.
Thanks for the reply
I have 1909 and 445.87 and it works fine - maybe i try the newest NVIDA Driver as you have recomended. But at the Moment i’m happy.
thanks a lot. i had the same issues with 2004.
downgraded my nvidia driver to 446.14. everything is smooth again.
One thing the new driver does is enable two options in the profile it comes with for MSFS:
-
“Threaded optimization” to “On”, instead of “Auto”
-
“Vertical sync” to “Fast”, instead of “Use 3D Application Setting”
If anyone didn’t revert the driver yet, they could try changing them back to defaults, apply them, restart the simulator, and see if it helps.
I’m especially suspicious about the “Threaded optimization” option. I suspect it may cause problems on CPUs that have only 4 cores and no hyperthreading.
So it might not be the driver itself, but the MSFS profile it comes with. This is how the profile looks, the settings in bold differ from the system default:
The old driver didn’t come with a dedicated profile for MSFS, and support was recommending in the past to enable these two options ourselves, if we have performance issues. I’m guessing they talked to NVidia to enable them for everyone, in the new driver, and it doesn’t work well for everyone.
I’m using driver version 432.00!
Running smooth. I’m not feeling the need to upgrade.
You are a genius.
I respect you.
Thank you sincerely.
