I am new to the world of flight simulation.
At this moment i am familiar with the Cessna Skyhawk G1000.
The takeoffs are going good also the landings.
I am also familiar with gps navigation and the flying goes with no problems.
But faster planes i have a lot of troubles.
Why are there no lessons for the faster planes?
Imean with navigation and learn to program the airbus?
Do i have to take evrything from you tube?
You tube movies are never complete and when i watched movies im still sitting with a lot of questions!
Why is there not a good pilot school inside MFS??
Real pilots learn to fly in a small plane like a Cessna. There are further lessons in real life for multi-engine and specific type ratings but the transition is really slow. You don’t go from a Cessna to a Boeing without advanced training programmes. Maybe they can build upon the existing lessons with navigation, multi engine, etc. But lessons to fly a Boeing wouldn’t be very realistic because in real life this is a very complicated training programme with hundreds of hours of material.
welcome to the community brother. Learning to fly more advanced planes is a time consuming task. Jumping from a motorbike to an interplanetary spaceship is discouraged. Let me recommend you the following path:
Cessna 172 -> Bonanza G36 -> 350i or Cessna Citation -> A320 or 737.
You need to firstly learn how to fly VFR, then IFR. The latter is the hardest and it takes quite some time. Weeks, months to master. Sadly MS overused glass cockpit planes, which by itself is not an impediment but it would be ideal to have full Steam Gauge planes with all the instruments working (AKA VOR/DME). Using Glass Cockpits/ GPS units is like cheating when learning IFR since the objective is to learn to fly with zero visibility and no outside references. Well, that is it. Learning to fly is hard, learning airliners is one of the hardest things and making in-game tutorials would be virtually impossible, time-consuming and somebody would have to pay for it. We usually find documents on the internet, PDFs, community tutorials, Youtube videos. It is a hardcore thing, but we like it. You will discover that you can enjoy the journey.
I’ll leave you some references for the future:
There you have everything to start. VFR, Avionics, IFR, etc. FAA site:
Then for airplanes, you can use the following keywords:
FCOM (Flight crew operating manual)
POH (pilot operating handbook)
POM(pilot operating manual)
Another tip is to use the “filetype:pdf” at the end of the google search.
For example:
Cessna 152 POH filetype:pdf -> that will give you the manual for the Cessna.
FCOM 737-300 pdf
A320 Manual pdf
And so on.
Indeed, MSFS offers only tutorials related to the Cessna, which IMHO is one of the worst flaws of this game in regards to onboarding new players.
While the game itself is very rich in content, it tells you pretty literally nothing about how to use half of it.
Unfortunately, at the moment you’re indeed stuck looking what you need up on Youtube or other guides.
Just don’t read PC Gamer’s guides, because people that tell you “just let the AI copilot fly the plane” in the " How to engage autopilot in Microsoft Flight Simulator" guide have nothing to teach you
There are actually more flight lessons in the Official folder, but only the current Cessna ones is available, probably because they are still working on the others. But there is a Commercial Flight in there already, but I can tell it’s not ready.
