Hi
I’ve been playing with Opentrack to setup headtracking and it seems to be working well apart from one issue and that’s the position of the camera when it starts.
In the ATR when I start tracking it puts me in the center of the cabin. The adjustments within Opentrack only allow a range of ±500cm which isn’t enough to get back into the cockpit. It appears to be placing the point of view at the center of the aircraft model.
I’m wondering if there’s a config file somewhere that sets the starting point for an aircraft for head/eye tracking that I’m not aware of?
I’ve tried different head tracking software (that still utilise Opentrack) with the same issue. I’ve tried on different aircraft and they have varying degrees of success but generally are within the 500cm adjustment range so can be setup. The ATR is just not usable though.
I’ve searched extensively for info on this issue and have come across a couple of posts on the internet with people describing a similar issue but no resolution. Any pointers welcome
The view reset should put you directly into whatever the current cockpit camera view is. You do have toggle tracking on/off and reset tracking view bound to something? You’ll use reset a lot. You will still need the native reset MSFS cockpit view too.
it’s not unusual to start the tracking with your head even outside the aircraft at times.
The best way I got it to work was:
-
In the sim bind both internal cockpit and external camera reset view to your controller on the same input which will put you where you are wanting to be either inside or outside of the plane.
-
Bind another controller input to toggle head tracking on/off in the sim.
-
In Opentrack, go to Opentrack->Options->Shortcuts->Restart tracking and bind the same controller input you used in step 2.
With steps 2 & 3, you can toggle off/on head tracking whenever you want and reset headtracking (Opentrack) at the same time. When you toggle headtracking on just be looking straight on as in the default internal cockpit or external camera start position so headtracking will be in sync.
Thanks for your help both. I’ve been trying all sorts to try and get this resolved and have come to the conclusion that it’s the way the ATR is setup. The only success I’ve had is altering the eyepoint settings in the cameras.cfg. For the ATR this appears to be set close to the reference datum which I think it the geometric center of the model. Unfortunately when you change the eyepoint setting all the cockpit views shift as well so by moving the eyepoint to the cockpit the default cockpit views end up about 7m in front of the aircraft. I’ve tried adjusting the camera views back to the cockpit but this is really fiddly as it seems the camera views units are metres and the eyepoint units are feet plus having to restart msfs to realise every change.
The nail in the coffin for me is that when using head tracking I don’t seem to be able to interact with the cockpit controls!
