OpenXR Toolkit (upscaling, world scale, hand tracking...) - Release thread

I have a Reverb G2 and still wish scenery in msfs looked sharper/better. Cockpit looks fantastic and sharp but anything in the distance just isn’t. I’ve tried all sorts of settings with sharpness and scaling. Currently running OXR 100%, in game 100% and FSR scaling 90%.

Maybe its a combination of bad shimmering and anti aliasing that is the problem? Or a limitation of current gen VR headsets?

I don’t think it is anything other than shortcomings of the MSFS coding/game engine. There are plenty of VR game examples out there that show just how good the latest generation of HMD’s can be. Just look at all the performance and stability problems and grumbles that have appeared on this forum where users have the latest GPUs and PC platforms. My G2 works very well tethered to a lowly GTX1080ti and i7 7700k, in X-plane (Vulkan), Aerofly FS2 (Vulkan) and even DCS.
VR is still basically at a beta stage in MSFS and the hope is it will get better.

Not being a developer, but one of the original alpha testers for FFR… My personal take is that it wouldn’t be worth the effort to implement. The difference between FFR=on and FFR=off is pretty substantial. But, the difference between “I can’t see any artifacts” and “This looks so bad I’m gonna vomit” is only 1-2 FPS at best.

As others in this thread have said and its mentioned in this Toolkit’s start guide: For Scenery to look sharper you may need to bump up the OXR above 100%. Folks here have had good experience with OXR 150%, some had to pull down the ingame resolution, and I had to pull back to OXR 125% to keep in game at 100% on a 3070. Also depends on your GPU, what are you running on? Test increasing OXR and pulling down FSR maybe 80 or lower.
What is your final resolution as displayed in OXR Toolkit? Would love for folks to share what is working for them for sharper scenery as I am still trying to find the sweet spot of clarity.

I tried 150% OXR and didn’t see any improvements over 100%. I am running on a 3080 and Ryzen 5800x.
With my current settings, the resolution displayed in OXR Toolkit is 2800xsomething (forget the second number).

I’m still at openxr 150%, awesome! in the wmr settings, “performance” also makes it much better for the visual quality

my resolution ingame is displayed with 3500x

Wow 3500x. I think if I push it that high, I am looking at less than 30fps. What GPU and CPU?

rtx 3070, i9 9900k, 32gb ram :+1:

but i have to say, I can only manage 3500x if I deactivate the clouds, but every now and then I treat myself to the experience  with clouds on, i set the resolution to 3100x

@ mbucchia I want a ask you about MR fps setup I downloaded your great OXR toolkit ,amazing work :+1:.But I can’t find MR fps setup line on program I already choose experimental settings but nothing see on line.
How can I solve it?

What headset do you have? The menu options won’t even show up unless you are running a WMR headset (i.e. HP Reverb G2)

edit
I believe it also requires you to be running the WMR OpenXR runtime. If you have set SteamVR as the active OpenXR runtime, I don’t think you’ll get the MR lock options in the menu even with a G2 headset.

I have Oculus Quest 2

I’ve got the 2080ti similar in performance to the 3070 and for me the sweet spot is 125% in openxr :+1: made a nice little boost and still smooth in busier areas and jets.

Yes I can confirm that Lock motion reprojection is only available for WMR users using the WMR OpenXr runtime. So your configuration is not compatible.

mbucchia, just wanted to say a huge thank you. The toolkit has been absolutely transformative to my experience. I have G2 but even 3080ti struggled to fill in all those pixels. I originally dismissed NIS scaler as it offered barely noticeable benefit. However, FFR has been a game changer. OXR 100%, TAA 100%, FSR 100%, MR OFF, but very aggressive FFR (33% and 46%) and everything is smooth and sharp. Would pay for this in a blink of an eye.

Very, very bad performance today!

I’ve update my Win 11 Insider Beta build to the latest 22581.ni + Nvidia latest drivers and the game is unplayable. While I get 38 fps with my usual settings and the OpenXR Toolkit, every 5 or 6 secs the sound goes off and I get some heavy 1sec stutters where the image is paused or completely black. Never had these issues except during the last Christmas period where a Win 11 Insider Dev build was installed. A new fresh installation to the Beta resolved everything. Now is back again…

Does anybody of you installed the last update as well? Conclusions?

AMD 5950X
128GB ram
3080 GTX
Reverb G2
Hags Off

Thanks!

I see a lot of people using OXR 150. I have a 3080ti with 5800x. Anything over 110 OXR and I get dips below 30FPS. That’s with 100 Render and 100 Toolkit. Do I need to upgrade my CPU to Intel 12000 series or something? Also, Motion repro only works with anything under 100Render/100OXR/80toolkit. Otherwise it dips below 30FPS. What are you 3080ti guys able to achieve?

I rolled the Insider Beta back to previous version and have come off the beta ring to RP. Didn’t like the performance at all - felt sluggish in the desktop even.

As for new Nvidia drivers not sure yet. They seemed OK when I tried them out last night but felt a few FPS down on before. I may roll those back as well to compare.

I have the same setup and achieve the similar performance than you. I don’t get how people can have better performance with 100/150/100. This should be virtually impossible ( at least if you want to keep your in-game graphics settings in the high/ultra region).

Thanks for your feedback, I guess something is wrong again in the beta release at this point!!! I’ve communicated the issue to the Insider portal, who knows if we will get a fix soon. For now the game is again unplayable for me! and BTW, the same stutters appear on PC mode.

You can roll back within 10 days. Then change your beta preferences to Release Preview.

No need to suffer with it mate!
