Opinion - too reliant on the cloud

If you are in the US or other areas, it is a really good experience. It depends on the CDN that is local to you. If they haven’t increased capacity of the CDN in the areas of some users, I do believe they are having a bad experience.

Unfortunately, the CDN network is controlled by a Microsoft child company. I forgot the name. But they were also the ones responsible for the issues we had with extremely slow download times for a year. So yes, in the US things are good, but the UK and Australia are having hard times right now, I’m not sure of other areas.

Yeah, it does seem like UK simmers are having a much harder time with it. The simultaneous worldwide launch really was a disaster.

The past big sim updates were also a pain point where scenery streaming couldn’t keep up with the inrush of players for a few days. Then we got all the people immediately complaining that the update was worse than before and we should be allowed to skip updates. The devs really can’t win either way.

Streaming content is here to stay. How many people still have their music collection on a local drive? Everything is moving to the cloud whether we like it or not.

While reading all these 2024 posts it dawned on me that the guys over at X-Plane gotta be celebrating….

They are not celebrating over a 3 day hiccup.

If last tuesday Microsoft released a product identical to Xplane 12 instead the outrage would be way bigger.

You have a good point. A lot could have been left as it was already. XBox would be a good reason to better use cores.

I do think they will get it all sorted. Unfortunately the team now has all the pressure to get things fixed. I feel sorry for them.
