You might try starting a flight in Free Flight anywhere at the airport before filing a plan. Just set a departure but not an arrival. Then once at the airport use the EFB to create a plan and send it to avionics. But don’t file it to ATC. Or use your third party plan. See if that works. But yeah I see your point that would be a good option.
