There is a frame rate clamp for when app hasn’t got focus in NVidia Control Panel (if you are using their GPU). This can dramatically reduce load.
Or put sim into windowed mode (ALT + ENTER) and resize to minimum size, has a similar effect on load. Just ALT + ENTER again to go full screen.
