Orbx Cityscape Sydney vs World Update 7

I haven’t logged into MSFS today, but when you install the WU7, can you open the package and just remove the Photogrammetry for Sydney?

Or just turn off Photogrammetry in the General Options as well?

OK, so I have the Orbx Sydney add on, and with it installed and WU7, there is definitely an issue with “dual” Harbour Bridges - see this scheenshot:

I didn’t notice at first actually, but once you see it…

Here’s a similar shot, but this time with the Orbx Sydney add on uninstalled, so just WU7 - looks pretty good actually:

Some update news from ORBX.

There’s simply NO EXCUSE for this at this point. We’ve been here before, several times!!! They HAD to have know their own city pack wasn’t compatible, they were literally making the WU with Asobo???

SMH. I don’t know how anyone at Asobo or Orbx can think this is ok. If they need some more time because they had all their resources tied up in getting the WU out the door, fine, but there REALLY should be a notice about this and their should be a note on the product everywhere it’s sold saying it currently conflicts.

A: This shouldn’t be happening at this point.
B: They should be in front of this issue regarding communicating to those who own the city add on and to anyone considering buying it now.

I love Orbx and their products, but this happening over and over especially on this one were Orbx is literally doing a significant portion of the World Update themselves really erodes my trust in them.

Orbx only did POI and airports. Photogrammetry cities were from Bing. So it seems like Orbx didn’t have much headstart in seeing the photogrammetry implementation.

“Who suffers from legal and licensing issues? The very consumers you live off of.”

I’m not so convinced about that as some of these PG cities have hand crafted buildings in them which could only be integrated if the PG was visible.

Orbx is an official partner, and doing work specifically for this WU, whether they worked on the Sydney city updates in the WU is irrelevant. They had NDAs, early knowledge of the WU, so I don’t see how there’d by any legal impediment to the information needed to know what was going to collide with their existing geo. All I’m asking for is for them to not ignore the problem until after it’s broken. They knew this was going to be the state of things and they apparently don’t care.

This is exactly what I was too lazy to type. Typical bureaucracy that passes on the negatives to consumers.

Instead of being like, “Oh man, World Update Australia! Sydney is going to be amazing with the World Update AND the Orbx scenery!”, but instead, once again, I’m like, “Never mind, I’m just going to ignore Sydney until enough people complain and Orbx finally acknowledge the issues and then issue a fix in a few months.”

Way to take an opportunity for you to shine (WU Australia) and make it a situation of frustration for your existing customers, Orbx. But you have my money, so well played, well played. You got me ONE MORE TIME.

Orbx have said they are working on making the 3 cityscapes compatible with WU7 at the moment so that’s good to know. Adelaide is done and is in final testing. Orbx recommend to remove the packages until the updates go live.

I assumed there was a good chance they were already working on that. Where did you see that statement?

Now I see that was already posted above/before my complaints about them not communicating? Maybe I glanced past that, but I think it was perhaps my browser not refreshing?

Great to hear. Hope it’s not too long a wait. Asobo really needs to freeze updates a week before they are released to customers and give it to devs as soon as they freeze it so fixes like this don’t always happen every single time.

But also, pretty sad they couldn’t have gotten things mostly locked down on places Orbx has scenery packs in time for this WU release. I’d much rather wait a week and not have tons of add ons break every single time!

I have Brisbane airport and city, Sydney airport and city, and Ayers Rock Airport. Is it safe to keep the airports and just uninstall the citypacks for now or are the airports corrupted too. I’m unfortunately stuck at work so unable to test for the next couple days. I read the post linked above, but wondering if anyone has witness to at least the airports working fine.

Relax - it will get sorted out in a few days, it’s hardly the end of the world.

And here is why:

There is no “corruption” and everythign works fine - there may be some visual glitches that will get ironed out.

After returning to Sydney to evaluate differences, I will continue to purchase Orbx scenery packs: knowing I will have to temporarily disable them upon initial release of the relative Asobo World Update areas.

NOTE: I uninstalled all my Australia Orbx scenery packs prior to updating to WU7, due to the acknowledged conflicts already posted.

I was assigned the same departure runway as my pre-WU7 flight: 34L.

It was immediately apparent and somewhat disorienting that visual references I had before removing the Orbx scenery were not present. The shipping dock cranes were missing.

It looks good either with or without Orbx. However, after I was somewhat visually disoriented at the hold short on 34L after removing the Orbx scenery, I found that I do continue to see value in the Orbx city sceneries - even though I’ll have to temporarily disable them upon release of World Updates.

  • I much prefer the addition of Orbx’s cleaner buildings in the city over the slightly distorted Photogrametry buildings.
  • I thought the little sail boats were part of another addon, but it appears that they are part of Orbx Sydney, and they give life to the waterways.

I was just checking out YBBN (Brisbane), and Orbx Brisbane Scenery. I actually like both the WU7, and Orbx Scenery installed together. It’s got slight issues with double story bridges etc, but they aren’t so far apart that you’d necessarily notice it unless you get really close, so I’m not going to un-install the Orbx scenery. I’ll just live with it until they update it.

Incidentally, I just noticed the new casino next to 1 William St in Brisbane exists even though it’s not built yet in real life. I assume this was one of the landmarks that was added in WU7. Having both installed I think is better.

I also think this is the case with the Sydney Scenery.

I agree.

However, my past experience with Orbx scenery has been troubled: specifically with their London, Frankfurt, Paris, as well as their Santa Barbara and Catalina airports. For a while, I couldn’t load MSFS with Santa Barbara installed, and Catalina would give me CTD’s if I tried to taxi on it.

Personally, I am content with disabling Orbx scenery for the area I’m currently in until I’m certain it doesn’t cause me to have to reboot my system (about 10+ minutes to re-start MSFS). I don’t plan on touring Australia for at least another week, but I may hold off until their Australia scenery is debugged.

Its six of one half a dozen of another for me. The Orbx scenery looks good close up and has great night lighting but over all looks too ‘clean’.

Photogrammetry looks over all more realistic above a certain height but obviously up close doesn’t look great.

If you enjoy landing the Icon A5 under Sydney harbour bridge, as I do, then the Orbx scenery wins I think.
