Orbx Great Britain North

Thought this add on deserved it’s own topic rather than being merged with Great Britain Central.

There’s over 600 POI’s, including the Isle of Man, Northern Island and the Shetlands, in addition to the primary coverage of Scotland.

For those who were looking for details of what’s covered, Orbx has today added the POI’s to their Discover map on the Orbx Central app so if you have the app you can click on the map, zoom in and check them all out. There is a lot, it seems a much more comprehensive package than Great Britain Central which is awesome!

Thanks for making the topic - ive been looking forward to this release.
I’m on Series X so can’t use the map on Orbx Central (no PC) - could i trouble you for a zoomed in screenshot of Edinburgh and the Lothians? I see you have a shot of the Central Belt in the other thread, but would really like a more focused idea of what’s around Edinburgh. :grinning:

Will just have to see how long the wait is on xbox - a wee while if GB Central was anything to go by.

I can only show one named POI at a time by hovering over them but you can see roughly how many cover the city. It looks pretty comprehensive.

Thanks - yeah, gives a good idea of what’s covered.

I have just bought it this morning. To accompany my great Britain Central

I’m flying through Scotland at the moment and enjoying the add on a lot. Having the Callinish stones on the Isle of Lewis is a nice addition. I’m touring Skye next and they have apparently added the Old Man of Storr and other rock features. Flying over Oban, McGaigs tower on Battery Hill was well done, and I enjoyed the Crucheon power station dam. Kisimul Castle on Barra, and the Laxey Wheel on the Isle of Man are other examples of nice improvements to the scenery which make flying over a place more rewarding.

100% agree. When i’m flying over the area that the packages cover, i have to keep up with which side view i should use because there are so many handcrafted landmarks.

Love this add on (and Central). Incidentally I used to work with the organisation that looks after the upkeep of many of the historic monuments in Scotland.
While I was there, they were working on a programme of laser scanning the monuments, sometimes using drones - it’d be interesting to get those scans into the sim, but GB North does a good job.

The only small issue I have is that sometimes the buildings appear slightly too dark in relation to those around them. Especially in the cities, this is probably accurate, but the autogen hasn’t had several centuries of ‘auld reekie’ grime to blend them in! :grinning:

I really hope they complete the series with GB South (excluding London of course, which has its own dedicated pack).

Personally i’m hoping the new London photogrammetry Asobo are working on is good enough for me to disable the London landmarks pack. They stick out way too much for me personally. Could really do with weathering, adjusting the brightness & saturation to fit in better.

In terms of an Orbx GB South pack, i’m hoping it’s taken this long because Asobo has given them a heads up that the UK will have another WU (hopefully, though it could also be a CU) & they’re working to release a GB South pack at the same time for a bigger sales opportunity.

GB South just released.
