Update available in Orbx Central for London City Landmarks and EGLC. Haven’t had a look yet, but release notes say that default Tower Bridge has been reinstated, among other things.
I have installed the update via Orbx Central, it looks great now! ![]()
Small, passionate communities are ripe for getting ripped off.
Flight sims, train sims…
I dont know why people buy scenery addons. It pretty much forces you to fly in one area to get your moneys worth. When the strength of the sim is world wide scenery its more fun flying from a different place each time.
Yes but if you live close to London (for exemple), you want to improve your “home base” as much as possible. It is true that with FS2020, the fun will be to discover new places/environment (even if the airport themselves will be “generic/autogen”)
Orbx listened to what people were saying and fixed it really quickly. There were only FOUR Asobo POIs that they had replaced and FOUR HUNDRED + new ones. They have now added more and returned theAsobo ones.
I love the PhotoGrammetry scenery but until Bing maps cover the whole of the UK (and even Google does not) I’m happy to enhance What Asobo has done. The London skyline is not the same without the Orbx pack.

We need pics ![]()
Their update fixes the issues with Tower Bridge and Westminster facades. Much better. Improved EGLC also in update.
From the air it’s looks much better now. Problem with this drone camera is some are now zooming into exact buildings where imperfections are evident. At >1000ft the scenery is superb, even better at night ![]()
Till now one can only apply the update from the Orbx central. People who bought London Landmarks from the marketplace cannot update yet.
Updated yesterday, this is the official changelog (copied verbatim from their forums):
Reinstated the default POIs (Tower of London, Tower Bridge, The Shard, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, O2)
Dimmed the night textures to better match the default lighting
Fixed the height of the BT Tower
Added the Dartford Crossing Bridge
Added London and Wembley Stadiums
HMS Belfast orientated correct way
The general quality is unchanged - “Minecraft in paradise” - so I’m still waiting for a real upgrade even though I’m not confident that it will happen quickly (I see they keep locking forum threads over the product, which I find a bit disturbing).
As a side note I saw that Drzewiecki Design has released a landmarks package for Moscow, from the screenshots and the few videos I fear this is another developer going the same way, I’ll pass until some kind soul publishes an in-depth video.
Points of interest should really be separated in peoples minds to these other buildings which are more designed to simply replace autogen buildings with more appropriate and custom ones. Creating 400 + buildings at the level of detail of the default POIs would be a large undertaking and I’m not sure what would happen to performance in that case. I don’t think the majority of these builidngs need to be that detailed, especially when you consider the detail of the autogen buildings themselves.
How many people actually fly in the PhotoGrammetry cities at the same altitude and as close to the buildings, as people have been to take the screenshots of the Orbx scenery that is being complained about?
You get that close to the photogrammetry and its a blurry mess.
ObsidianAnt produced a good video on Youtube showing the three levels of scenery using the drone cam and the custom made airports have the highest level of detail because they are the ones where you would be at or close to ground level.
Everywhere else is designed to be viewed at altitude and most places unless landing or taking off you should be above 1000ft in a sim. It’s a flight sim not GTA V.
AFAIK performance would be a non-issue as the engine supports LODs (Levels Of Detail) for landmarks/objects.
Here’s an example with a windmill from the default files:

xml:
Camera away from the object = low polycount, close to the object = higher polycount.
That means a developer should be able to model different variants of a specific building to properly adjust the performance cost.
As usual, the main consideration would be production time/cost vs profitability. Imho.
Apparently they also fixed some of the night lighting. Can anyone take a screenshot of how it looks now? I might get it, seems they are working hard on fixing it. Good to see, orbx usually brings quality.
Sounds about right.

Does anyone knows when will the updates availble at the Flightsim Marketplace
Sorry no. Orbx forum says “All these updates have been submitted to Microsoft for inclusion in the Marketplace and will appear in due course.”
Mhh…
How i can check if there are avaible?
Would it not just be a game update next time you launch MSFS?
