Hello everyone!
While waiting for my Reverb G2, I tried VR with my Oculus Quest 1, and here is what I noticed, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.
First of all, I do have a beefy system: Ryzen 5600X, 32Gb, RTX3080
But while I managed to run VR with the original Quest (disabled the stencil with the debug tool), I think I could not enjoy it as much as many of you with way lower specs.
I noticed that the frame rate was locked to half the Quest refresh rate , so 72hz/2 = 36fps… (may I lower the settings to the bottom or crank them quite high)
I know that motion reprojection is supposed to double that and make it smooth, but I’m not sure that I benefit from OpenXR improvements.
I read that I’m supposed to be in the Oculus Public Beta Testing loop to have OpenXR support, but Oculus Link is not supported for Quest 1 in Beta (confirmed on their website)
In the current situation, it’s playable, head movement is quite smooth in fact, but if I barrel roll, the landscape is not smooth at all. (even on lowest settings, stable FPS, CPU and GPU having lot of headroom)

Does anyone have the same experience with a Quest 1 here?

Can you confirm that there’s no OpenXR support if we’re not in Oculus Public Beta? (That’s to say Quest 1 : no OpenXR?)
I know that things will be better when I receive my G2, but I wanted to share my experience with you guys, and see if we can also enjoy this marvelous sim on the humble Quest 1.
And of course, merry Xmass to all of you ![]()
