đź“ŚOrnithopter Desert Storm - Arizona

Welcome to the 170th flight event with Gunpilot and a whole bunch of other like-minded sim pilots. If you have just discovered these flight events for the first time, welcome aboard and you will be made to feel very much at home with the rest of the pilots on the flight.

The only request we make is that you arrive on the tarmac in the aircraft designated for the flight, and you join in the banter on the supplied COMMS RADIO which can be found in Gunpilot’s Discord server (click on this link to take you directly to Gunpilot’s server GUNPILOT’s Server ).

This week we break in the newly released ORNITHOPTER, an aircraft like no other that both promises, and delivers in spades, such an exhilarating flying experience that you may never have felt before.

This flight will have us weaving our way through a narrow and deep canyon, finally bringing us to the Grand Canyon, south of Page, Arizona. We will then fly north in the Grand Canyon to the dam wall at Page where we will be tasked with some difficult flying and landing challenges. From here the route will have us flying east and then eventually south again to our destination at Sedona.

Just like in the Dune Part 2 movie just being released in cinemas world wide, where the Ornithopter and crew have to outrun a monster sandstorm, time will also be a constant pressure factor for us as we don’t depart until late in the afternoon, and not arriving at our destination until after last light will be a constant danger hanging over us.

Afterburners will be in constant use so make sure that you come with unlimited fuel for this flight as the afterburners really suck up the fuel very quickly.

The standard 1 livery that has been provided in MSFS2020 has some unfortunate nuances that may be somewhat frustrating, but not to worry, Gunpilot has come to the rescue and has a solution. To bypass some frustrating glitches in the standard livery, it is strongly recommended that you download the following free “Desert Storm” livery and place into your Community folder.

Livery Microsoft-Ornithopter-Desert storm V 1.0.0 by Newdeclic for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS

Not only is this livery good looking, it also has operational dashboard panels and buttons, and using LNM VR in the cockpit is supported.

Also, click on following link and you will be taken to a tips section in Gunpilot’s Discord server where you will find some helpful tips on the Ornithopter, as well as a very short and simple video on how to set up the Ornithopter in the sim GUNPILOT's Server

*Again, a packaged up WEATHER file has been developed and included along with the flight plan, negating any need for anyone to dial in weather settings, as well as ensuring that all pilots are experiencing exactly the same weather conditions. The Weather Preset file is located in #gunpilots-events (click Discord
to be taken there). Extract file into your Community Folder prior to launching your sim for the flight.

Please note, this weather preset file will populate two weather presets straight into your drop down weather window as half way along the route the cloud coverage changes.
