OshKosh Fly-In Event & Landing Competition - ForderLearnToFly

“Every General Aviation pilot’s dream… to fly the famous FISK approach into OSHKOSH, the biggest fly-in event in the world.” Over 10,000 airplanes over 10 days in real life. Here, we recreate the mood, the procedure, the approach and the atmosphere in Microsoft’s Flight Simulator.

We use the built-in gorgeous stock scenery with the light scenery add-on from flightsim.to. That’s it. Then practice away until the big day. https://www.flightsim.to/file/9667/kosh-wittman-regional-airport-oshkosh-wisconsin This one has the VOR fixed and the dots and squares where they should be.

All contestants will have to register for the competition so we know you are aware of the procedure (NOTAM) and we recognize your airplane tag overhead. All registered contestants receive a certificate of participation. All winners receive a special certificate and possible software prizes.

You can register for the event HERE.

The multi-page NOTAM document is HERE. Howard has made a condensed copy of this unique to our event complete with FlightEvent install and config instructions HERE.

The preparation session stream will be Thursday, July 8th at 5pm Eastern 2100 zulu. on Forder’s stream https://twitch.tv/ForderLearnToFly

The main event is on 2021-07-10T16:01:00Z

The basic rules are simple and close to the real thing:

  1. Follow the exact approach to FISK with proper spacing, altitude and frequencies.
  2. ATC sees you in the sky and clears you land on a designated runway and color of DOT.
  3. On landing, hit your designated colored DOT. With both main wheels on the dot, 5 points, with variations of that with lesser points.
  4. You can leave the airport according to NOTAM and come back through FISK for another attempt. We will take 3 our of 5 landings at both 36 and 27 for final scores. (or 2 out of 3) TBD

I will need to hear from volunteers for spotters and controllers. We will train you for these positions. It is not hard. We need 6 controllers ( 3 and 3 to spell each other off). Join Forder’s discord channel to direct message him or use this forum for questions. Use the registration form to volunteer for the event. All volunteers get a certificate of appreciation and possible software prizes.

Let’s have some fun and show off our flying skills. Any propeller airplane can participate. We are including helicopters this time too. Send a link to Forder with your special livery (if it’s free) so you will show up as the plane you fly in his screens.
