Brief description of the issue:

The navigation lights on other aircraft (AI, Multiplayer, etc.) are FAR FAR FAR too bright, both day and night. In real life, navigation lights are completely invisible beyond maybe 1/2 mile during the daytime.

(Night) At night, navigation lights are really only visible within 3-5 miles. Strobe lights are visible at night from a pretty good distance (30-50NM), but still aren’t “bright”. A strobe light at 30-50NM really should be a gray/red dim pixel against the background.

(Daylight) The only lights that are truly visible during daylight is the landing light, and that’s only if you’re in the fairly narrow projection cone from the light.

(Daylight) AI aircraft really should be represented as nothing more than a gray pixel out to 15-20NM unless the landing light is on and pointing at you. 20NM is about as far as you can reliably see a large/heavy aircraft in the daytime.

I realize that with display resolutions, you’re never going to see other traffic beyond 1NM if it is accurately portrayed, but there has to be a solution that is a middle ground between what we have now and reality.

Voted.

Completely agree.

As it’s not considered a significant issue, I’m hoping that aircraft lights and other point-light sources problems are addressed in MSFS2024.

I rather them be too bright since there’s no way to have a label over them like you could in FSX

You can turn labels on in the assistant settings, but I can’t remember if that’s just for multiplayer or if it also works with AI aircraft. I agree with you, though, but mostly because the labels are big and begin to clutter the screen with a lot of traffic around and I have them turned off. It may not be true to life realistic, but it’s one of those issues where I prefer it as is. I want to be able to see other aircraft in the vicinity, and the extra bright lights are probably the most unobtrusive way to do it.

There’s a setting for both but the one for AI traffic has never worked as far as I’m aware. Also with the sparsity of offline AI traffic (as of now) label overlap wouldn’t be a problem.

Labels work for Live AI Online Traffic (stock sim). Can’t speak to any other injectors.

Also multiplayer aircraft tend to have less visibility in the sim than AI aircraft.

Most of the time I don’t see lights or pixes from multiplayer airplanes unless they are within a mile or two. Although that might be people not using their lights?

I’ve seen multiplayer airplanes vanish while within landing pattern distances and AI airliners are still visible from 30K feet and miles away. The only thing visible are the nameplates.
