OK, ok, so MSFS is a flight sim, but with the inclusion of Ouro Preto as a TIN city in WU19, what is it like at ground level? Let’s check it out. Our goal is the POI in town, the Igreja Sao Francisco de Assis.
There is no airport at Ouro Preto, but in the Paulistinha CAP-4, this is not a problem - the Complexo Esportivo da Agua Limpa makes a great airport for this little aircraft:
On the uphill site of the football field, there are some steps up to Rua Mecanico Jose Portugues:
Turn right and follow the road downhill until it meets Rua Tome Afonso. Unfortunately, on many of the roads, a combination of narrow streets and parked vehicles causes the TIN processing to render big chunks of “rocks”:
At the bottom of the hill, turn left and walk up Rua Professor Antonio de Paula Ribas. Keep left at the Quadra da Agua Limpa until you come to rather undefined track on the right which leads to the main road Rua Padre Rolim:
Turn right on Rua Padre Rolim. A short stroll will bring you to a lookout point over the town:
Continuing down Rua Padre Rolim, past the Museum of Science and Technology of the School of Mines (well worth a visit in real life) brings you to the town center:
Walk down Rua Antonio Prereira and you’ll soon come to our destination, the church of Saint Francis of Assisi:
Take a walk around the church and admire the architecture:
and the views of the town:
I think its time to relax. Luckily, the Resaurante Bene da Flauta is right by the church, so makes an excellent spot for a good cup of fine Brazillian coffee or a meal!:
I hope you enjoyed discovering this part of the world. In real life, this town is a little gem that is well worth a visit!
