Out of all the beta testing between MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 So Far!

Hi there, I believe that SU Beta 2 is the longest and largest of all of the beta testing so far.. I wasn’t sure where to post this.. I hope that it’s ok here..

Personal Comments and Observations

Figure it’ll be another week at least, maybe two. Lots of stuff needs addressing.

No, there was a su in 2020 - one of the latter ones- that took a much longer time to roll out.

If you want to just compare fs24 SU , it’s not hard for this to be in beta the longest- there’s only 2 of them so far!

SU15, began in March and consumed last Summer? Apples and Oranges but that was one big Apple!

What isn’t fixed that is on the list for a fix in SU2? Pretty sure this ones in the can.

At this point, I think, they should just go the beta/stable branch route, where there is a continuous Beta running and the user can just decide which branch to take. Like with any other major Software out there like steam or windows. This way they can have a higher change cadence on the beta branch (more unstable) like every other week. And major changes on the stable every other month or whatever.
Would help much more in terms of continuous improvement process, in my opinion.

Check the Dev site, plenty of things floating around either in regression or still needing either repro. Sim Updates have both player facing and SDK facing issues.

I’m not sure what that has to do with my question. I asked the OP which items that are slated for fixes in SU2 are still not fixed that would delay the final release of the SU2 Beta?

I was speaking strictly about SU2. So I’m not clear why you’re asking me about SU3 when I’m saying that SU2 still has items to tick off that are not on the list. Just to be clear, the lists (as many as there are) never have included the entirety of the Dev Backlog - only in the release notes when an update becomes Retail Build do other items get surfaced or revealed as having been fixed/patched that were never raised before.

If something is slated for SU3 on the list, that’s great. But there are issues still present in the current build - if you go through the Dev site, you can find trending and existing issues that have either regressed or need to be triaged to figure out if it makes SU2 or not.

You are right, my goof, I fixed my posts to say SU2. Getting ahead of myself. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Which items from SU2 are still holding the release up?

There are issues introduced by SU2 Beta. A big one is that the EFB does not respond to controller inputs on Xbox. You have to use an external mouse to operate it.

Yeah sadly the SU2 beta still has too many regressions for it to be released.

Eh, it’s part of the growth cycle of sims. Every so often, you get a version that’s particularly difficult to get releasable. SU15 was, 2.5.6 for DCS was similar. SU2 seems to be taking an average amount of time

From the tone of the original post, either OPs memory doesn’t go back that far in FS20 updates, or they weren’t in on the beta for it

Another regression is the ATC window hides most of the replies and unable to scroll to the bottom of the replies. The hypoxia issue still remains for the PC-12 and we now have blurry runway and taxiway lights at night.
These are just a few but if they release SU2 with the ATC issue I’m sure there will be an uproar for the many simmers that aren’t privy to it. Even though they broke it during SU2 Asobo have pencilled it in for SU3 to be fixed.

Not to mention the bad stuttering at handcrafted and third party airports at departure and arrival.

It’s important to distinguish between base Sim Updates (to the core sim) and any individual aircraft improvements.

While it’s conflated because Sim Updates in 2020 and so far in 2024 combined both, this is the first sim in the series that has this many Partner Dev aircraft.

As such Asobo isn’t so much on the hook to deliver all those individual aircraft patches - the Dev Partners who built them are.

But it all has to come together based currently on release patterns. And we know Dev Partners have or are meeting their contract obligations to patch up those aircraft based on original scope. And MS has many of those patches. Why they’re sitting on them, who knows?

Maybe they’ll get released with SU2 RTM, maybe not. If the latter, then those of you curious may wish to ask that question come the next Dev Q&A. I know I will because so many aircraft I like to fly are currently nerfed to one extent or another.

Yeah I get these micro stutters at 3rd party airports too. Other than that, the sim runs pretty smooth.

So the big question is, will this be an issue that Asobo needs to fix or do the 3rd party devs need to optimize?

Feel like we will never know!

I would imagine Asobo simply because it happens on non third party airports too but not as bad as third party. Don’t get me wrong all the airport devs will have to further optimise their products but I do believe base game sim airports need sorting out too.

Jorg did mention in one of the Q&As that Gaya was reoptimizing all the bespoke core sim airports for streaming.

Amongst others, judging by the forums posts the number 0ne VRAM issue is still not settled. They have had enough responses to know that their claim that it is “fixed” is not accurate.

I would hope they will not release SU2 until they fix the regressions introduced during the beta - in particular, the abysmal exhaust gases issue in the Daher TBM.
