Hey everyone.
I’ve put together some rough mockups for a rework of the controls screen. The aim is to make it more intuitive, with improved organization and accessibility for customizing controls.
While the per-aircraft settings are a great feature, the current implementation can be quite challenging, especially for beginners. Here are some of the changes I’m proposing:
- Shrink the settings tabs: They take up valuable space that could be used for content below.
- Remove the right-hand pane: It’s space-consuming, and descriptions like “AILERON AXIS = Control the aileron axis” aren’t particularly helpful.
- Move hardware settings to the hardware list items for better organization.
- Redesigned active/selected indicators: Saves space and clears room for action buttons.
- Hide descriptions behind an info icon: Keeps the interface cleaner.
- Carousel toggle visually inactive: “None” Profiles cannot be interacted with - the affordances should reflect this
- Added back button Easier navigation within the lists without having to move to the bottom left - also [ESC] as “Move Back” would be nice
- Add a dropdown menu filter by type: Easily sort between digital, axis, etc.
- Include commonly used actions in the list: For me, this includes options like “Invert Axis” and “Delete”.
- Allow renaming hardware components: Especially useful for devices with overly long or generic names.
There’s obviously more that could be done, and to be honest, the entire controls page might benefit from a complete rethink. But these are my ideas for now without breaking the whole existing concept.
This is just a starting point to spark a constructive discussion—I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions!
