P51 manifold pressure

Just curious if this is a factor of online ranking or something else going on, but it seems the manifold pressure is limited to 60 on 100% throttle - which is fine for a combat based Merlin. However, on replays and top times, I’ve seen up to 100 listed. Is this a bug or something I need to do to unlock that (setting or ranking, etc.)?

FYI, I had purchased Spam Can separate as well as the $20 Reno bundle, if that makes any difference instead of the full $60 for everything.

I got the whole bundle…very disappointing. Great visual models the rest is just bad.

Thanks for the response -did figure it out. Apparently only “unlocks” in multiplayer race mode, but would be nice to have a race fuel option/mode or something in free flight just for the extra speed. It’s a little underwhelming overall though, really only got the basic Reno to see what the others were like as well. The stang isn’t half bad, but yeah not all there yet. Odd rules/FM’s are supposed to be different, yet not race ready in standard mode or time trial… Ah, well, plenty of other 3rd party out there now as well to make up for it I suppose.

60 inches is two atmospheres… quite a lot to ask for even a brand new Merlin, let alone one that’s pushing eighty year old.

Note too that the published operating limit was predicated on the availability of 115/145 (we used to call it “Grape Juice”) which I haven’t seen in the wild in nearly fifty years.

I read an article in Air and Space magazine awhile ago about a mechanic that specializes in the Merlin engines that are raced at Reno. The deck pressures that those engines are built to withstand are 145 inHg. That stuck in my mind because the RAM VI engines in the Chancellor I flew had a maximum takeoff power set at 45 inHg and I thought wow an extra 100 inches! There is nothing in MSFS that resembles realism except for pretty visuals.

Gotcha, yes agreed the racing spec engines and probably the gauge readings in Reno mode are rather nullified for approximation/level competition. I certainly wouldn’t expect even 60 for a standard issue Merlin for very long, much less cruise it at more than 35. Just seemed odd that it was drastically different in performance and indications. Ah well, it’s a game mode - no worries, but thanks in any case.
