Hello,
I have a Pimax 5k xr and have experimented with settings quite a bit now. What I’m wondering is how MFS is using parallel projection ? When I turn PP on I get less smooth movements (turning head etc). When tuning PP off the performance is much better, but I have strange artifacts on the edges of the screens. Means on the right screen on the outer right peripheral and on the left the same.
I haven’t seen any where what MS/Asobo suggests when it comes to PP whether it’s mandatory for MFS to work correctly or if there are any settings that can correct the artifacts when PP is off and therefore have better performance.
Any Ideas ?
Unfortunately for what I know, the goal of PP is to correct this kind of artifacts but at the cost of performance. In others games, PP must be ON if the game show double images in the headset for instance.
So we (Pimax users) must choose : PP ON and no artifacts and no performance or PP OFF with artifacts and some performance.
We can be thankful that at least PP ON is not mandatory with MSFS.
It’s either PP off with culling artifacts or PP on for culling fix with considerable frame rate hit. I myself prefer normal FOV with culling vs small FOV and PP on, performance is similar.
On large FOV culling is almost unnoticeable for me but i need to upgrade CPU first to hopefully make it work with motion smoothing as well as it works with normal FOV now.
I reported culling issues during beta but don’t have high hopes Asobo will fix it anytime soon.
Also i think you will definitely want to use smart smoothing with MSFS to effectively double your FPS for smooth gameplay in exchange for some minor artifacts.
That is… turn on smart smoothing, set refresh rate to 64Hz and ensure that your settings allow you to stay above 32 FPS for it to work it’s magic.
And one more thing, if you notice weird periodic stutter with smart smoothing on try to downgrade Pitool to 1.0.1.260 version, that fixed it for me.
