Hello everyone,
Can I somehow influence the ATC to assign me a parking position at the terminal with Jetway connection?
As a rule, I often only get parking positions at large airports on the apron.
Does the airline play a role like in real life?
You can go to your arrival airport on the world map, click “Zoom to Details” then select a gate. Then, once you get to your gate, click on “Ground Services” and then click “Request Jetway Connection”
Hope this helps! ![]()
I don’t think that’s what OP was asking. The problem with the selecting a gate as the arrival at the world map is that it resets the assignment once you change the flight plan mode to IFR. This wasn’t always the case since a few Sim Updates ago, but it is now.
Due to this reset of the gate assignment in the flight plan, OP was asking if there’s anyway we can still park at the gate with jetway connections because apparently OP keeps on getting assigned to parking positions.
So to answer @Chris002800 question. Basically, at the moment… No. You can’t influence the ATC to assign you at the gate with jetway connection. However, you can at least understand how this works and maybe manipulate something to get it to work.
The ATC taxiing and parking accuracy is also depending on the completeness and cleanliness of the airport AFCAD data. As long as the airport has a well-designed taxiway connections and well defined parking spots and their types, you should be able to contact ATC and ask for taxiing clearance to multiple types of parking.
- Request Taxi to the Gate = This will give you clearance to gate parking with jetway connections.
- Request Taxi to Parking = This is generally the parking without jetway connections.
- Request Taxi to X location = This is the rarest one, where it could give you a choice on which specific area of the airport that you want to taxi to.
If you don’t have these options on the ATC menu, that means the airport AFCAD data is incomplete and the ATC can’t properly read the airport characteristics to give you proper taxiing clearance. But we do understand that this is probably out of your control, and if you are using a custom addon for the airport, you might need to reach out to whoever developed it and request an improvement in the airport AFCAD with more detailed and accurate data.
The ones that you can control, however is your Aircraft Livery config file. If you open your Livery addon in your community folder, you should be able to find its Aircraft.cfg file. If you open this you should see a field with the ATC_Parking in them. This can have many values. things like “Any” will mean the ATC will assign you any random parking type. There’s “Gate” which means ATC will assign you to gate parking types with jetway connection. There’s also “Ramp” for parking without jetways, “Cargo” for Cargo parking, etc.
If the ATC_Parking type is set to a multiple of types “Gate, Ramp, Cargo, Military”, it should take precedence in that order. But if you keep getting assigned to non-gate parking types. Try to edit this value and just keep it as “Gate”. That way the ATC will only assign you to gate parking types with jetway connection.
That being said though, it’s still heavily rely on the actual parking type at the airport AFCAD data. If it’s not clean enough to provide a proper “Gate” type parking, you might still have the same issue of getting it to park your aircraft properly. So try to give it a go.
Thank you for the detailed answer.
Thanks for telling me! Wasn’t quite sure what the OP was asking, which called for my original answer. I also have that problem where my selected gate resets.
Recently I’ve been assigned to a parking space when I wanted a gate. Much to my surprise when I selected “Ground Services” the full “gate” menu was displayed. The only difference was that when I requested a jetway, airstairs were brought in and attached. But this doesn’t work at all airports.
Yeah, that’s the thing. It’s just how the airport AFCAD data is made. If the airport parking type is incorrectly set to a Gate type, the ATC will just see it as such, even if there’s no jetway in there. So the devil is in the detail, making the airport data as accurate and as clean as possible is a huge task to do, I’m not surprised if developers just copy and paste gate types and place it everywhere without a second thought. But it does impact the ATC ability to properly read them and assign you the right parking for your aircraft.
I’m not sure if this helps, but have you tried using the GSX Pro addon?
