Payload system still completely broken

Over a year after a release and the payload still does not work. I enter the payload in, then load the sim and it is reset. What the actual hell is going on over there. How hard is it to make such an essential and basic feature work. Very puzzling and frustrating. Please fix as a priority.

But it works …

The trick is: Open the Weight and Balance page, set everything and do not open it again.
Opening the page again resets the settings.

Yep, works for me too.

doesn’t sound to me like it was working properly. It’s these annoying and ignored bugs that seem to be the only recurring theme in this sim’s development that make the bad mood. Could be avoided so simply.

it works fine.

Making adjustments to a group of settings (for example payload) then re-opening that window and having those settings reset to default values during the set up phase of a flight is NOT “works fine”

“Barely works” would be a better description.

I didn’t reopen it. I set it in preflight, loaded the flight, then when I was setting up the FMC I noticed it was wrong so I checked, and it was reset to defaults.

So I changed the weights etc from default before I launched the Sim. I started the sim and accessed the fuel settings from the toolbar and you can see all of the changes are retained.

If you make changes before you start the flight, and then go back into the payload again before you start the flight, it will reset them to default.

The trick is to set them, then load the flight and they will be remembered, and you can edit them from the toolbar fuel option.

As I said, in the case that prompted me to make this post, what you are describing did not happen. The payload set pre-flight was NOT retained. I haven’t tested it again since, I have just been setting my payload after loading into the flight as I do not want to waste time fiddling around with it more than necessary.

Ok, so maybe test it and let us know which aircraft you are having the issue with and someone may be able to help. I have tried this with several aircraft without problem, so it may be that there is some sort of conflict on your system? If you give us the aircraft you are trying to use, and if its 3rd party, whether or not it was bought through the in game marketplace (this could have a baring as the aircraft is saved in a different part of the folder structure and not in the community folder.)

I typically fly the DA62 in the Canaries with FSE to keep it entertaining.
I plan the flight via SimBrief and then load the saved plan from the Globe View.
Once in the aircraft on the ramp I start the flight in FSE which presets the fuel load based on what is in the aircraft currently according to the FSE system.
With MSFS apparently the FSE client can not preset the pax/cargo load so you have to do that manually at this stage.
As soon as you edit any of the W&B lines the fuel preset goes back to 50%.
That is bad if you are starting with much more than that because unless you catch it FSE will deduct the fuel as used in flight
But even worse if you happen to start the flight with less than that according to FSE you will likely land with more fuel than you started with and that invalidates your FSE flight.

So in my opinion it is not really working as it should. It’s working half assed as long as you adapt to the quirks of the software.

Yes, I think there’s a problem with the SDK as I’ve heard some addons that manage loads (fuel / pax / cargo etc) have to be used in a certain way in order to work. The SDK is a nightmare, as is developer mode at the moment. The examples I gave were just flying a basic flight though.

I simply outlined how I do my flights and the issues MSFS fuel/payload system has in that scenario.
In my example it would be relatively good if changing the station loads would not change fuel quantities.
It doesn’t work like that in real life last time I checked
If I had already put 100 gallons of fuel into the PA32 that fuel did not disappear if the payload / pax increased. At that point, if there was any issue with MTOW or MLW I could only reduce the payload or pax OR de-fuel the airplane. And that is not something you do all that often

Hello everyone, as a workaround, please set Fuel & Payload last, before launching the flight.

The issue is logged into our database.

That is not really a work around though is it. It is changing the fuel level AFTER you set the station weights. At least the first time you edit one of the weights

May have recently experienced a variation of this bug:

Fixed in Sim Update 10.
