Payware to New Computers

Since my purchase of FS2020, I’ve amassed a rather significant library of payware airports and aircraft. I usually purchase aircraft direct from the creators website, but airports I tend to buy from ORBX/CONTRAIL/SIMMARKET to keep track of updates easily.

With FS2024 coming out, there may be a need for a new computer down the line (I hope not). My question is: will I be able to use my collection on the new computer or does anyone know of any notable companies that do not allow this?

I don’t know the type of computer you have but I recently purchased a new 4TB M.2 drive because I drive was getting full. I went on youtube to watch this video on how to transfer my community files to the new drive. Its been working okday.

Is there a special procedure or were you able to simply re-download from the source with no issues onto the new drive using the same accounts?

My computer is powerful enough for rather good frame rates using ultra high settings @ 1080. If FS2024 doesnt raise the bar significantly on specs i should be fine but may have to swap out my drive to larger storage (or buy additional storage).

Following as I am having the same issues with MSFS, DCS and Star Citizen taking up my 2 TB of storage.

Would love if folks could point to any online tutorials on moving the community folder (or entire MSFS libraries) to a new M.2 Drive as I have space to add another one. (I’m on Steam if that matters). I was going to simply upgrade my computer but gonna wait for the 5090 to come out by Nvidia (which could cause the 4090 to drop in price, or perhaps just go to 5090).

I believe the TDS Garmin payware is tied specifically to a computer and I think they warn you that if you get another computer you’ll need a new license. Not sure about PMS.

For generic addons, these articles might be of interest:

For payware products, it all depends on how they install their products, where they install them & how they update them. I don’t think there is single answer. Your best bet would be to look at each company’s website, or ask on their forums.

We don’t know yet the mechanism of how MSFS 2020 3rd-party products will “transfer” to 2024 - will they be linked, or copied, or moved, or…?

I’m sure guidance will be provided by MS/AS at some point, maybe after the various public events scheduled for this summer. It may also be too early for payware companies to provide this information, if they are limited by their NDAs on what they can say about 2024 at this point.

Eventually of course, but my expectation of MSFS 2024 is the opposite. They claim to have made major performance improvements especially on the CPU threading side which is the limiting factor for most of us. As such I’m expecting better performance on older hardware which should extend its longevity a bit more. One thing is certain, MSFS 2020 is substantially under using the full capabilities of modern hardware and so if they fix the software there’s a lot more potential in what we already have.

In regards to the TDS GTNXi, we do not force a new license purchase if the customer has purchased a new computer, the user can just uninstall the TDS GTNXi from the old computer.

In case of licensing issues, we advise users to contact us and we will gladly resolve all issues. So no need to worry about licensing problems with the TDS GTNXi!

Best regards.

Airports and aircraft should cause no issues with transferring to a new computer, the ones you need to look out for are apps running outside of the sim e.g. Pilot2ATC which may require that the license is deactivated on the old PC, before activating on a new one.
