PC configuration for VR only - 4070ti vs 7900xtx?

Hi,
I have a pc with Ryzen 7800X3D, 32 GB DDR5 and Quest2 (Quest3 as soon as possible).
I’m undecided about the graphics card… 4070TI or with +100 eur the 7900xtx… which should be lower than the 4070ti only if is active the DLSS3 on Nvidia… but I don’t know if DLSS works in VR… which do you recommend between these 2?

Thank’s
Piero

i got a 2nd hand nvidia 3090 and very happy (got it for 600 eur) CPU is 7900x3d.
in VR you DLSS2 only so not an issue.
edit: reverb G2 here. lots of perfornance, the 4090 is wasted money imo.

In general, Nvidia does a better job of supporting VR features with their drivers.

If I knew I was going to be a major VR player, I’d pick the most powerful Nvidia card I could afford.

My experiences come from owning a Reverb G2 and an AMD RX 6800XT.

DLSS 3 frame generation doesn’t work in VR and will probably never work (search this forums for the explanation why).
I would recommend nVidia it’s more popular among VR manufacturers.
Consider the biggest budget you can invest, add 30% and buy the strongest GPU. VR is power hungry, with strong enough GPU you will be flying instead of constantly tinkering. If you consider 4070Ti, consider also 4080 (if 4090 is out of your reach).

4070ti hands down. VR compatibility is way higher with nVidia. Plus DLSS gives even more performance.

I run ultra preset with my quest 2 untethered. It’s quite good.

Though I generally run on my TV for the inky oled blacks and HDR colors.

Go for 7900XTX. Same or better performance than RTX4080, AMD fixed its drivers for VR in 7900 series, you will get 24GB VRAM absolutely better than 12Gb. What happens when you run out of VRAM in VR is that you’ll get stutters consistently, and they really breaks inmersion. Other thougths:

  • DLSS 3.0 Frame Gen doesn’t work in VR.
  • FSR 3.0 is rumored to work in VR due to not rest on AI algorithms but hardware optical flow accelerators.
