Hello captains,
I’ve been reading a few posts about the recent bad performance after the new patch. In my case, its seems to be a little bit worse.
The MFS menu seems to be more laggy, and once I press “Fly” and spawn at the airport, it doesn’t take more than 2-3 minutes until my PC completely reboots. Just black screen then reboots.
My PC is:
-Intel® Core™ i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20 GHz 3.19 GHz.
-16G RAM
-GForce 970GTX (yeah it’s a little bit old but worked pretty good until last update).
-Windows 10, Operative System x64.
At this moment I’m trying to reinstall the game to see if maybe some files were corrupted or something, but dunno… Because when I appear on the Airport the speed of the fans and also the hard drive seems to sounds “a little bit louder” then it crashes.
As far as I read it’s a SIM problem, obviosly because it only happens on MFS and no other games (like R6Siege or Elite dangerous, also try this last one, it’s a gem).
Any solutions in sight?
Thank you in advance, and good flights pilots ^^
If you’re running into hard reboots, it’s not just a software issue.
It’s most likely a thermal protection or an overvolt protection kicking in. Most likely causes are overheating components (maybe by dust, faulty fans etc), unstable overclock or a faulty/underpowered Power supply.
MSFS is a heavy workload, stressing out both GPU and CPU, especially with slightly older hardware. Most other games will only really stress out the GPU.
So yeh, first step would be cleaning out the PC, checking your thermals (I suggest HWINFO64) and remove/reduce any overclocks. If those are all fine, try and see if you can find a newer / higher powered PSU to test to see if that fixes your issue.

Turning the volumetric clouds to medium save my reboot problem
Hi…
does it start after MSFS update or after MS Windows March update ( KB50000802 ) ?
For me the old reboot issue ( not only in-game ) is back with this MS update.
Have you HAGS enabled ? If yes, try to disable it…
Hi,
It began just after the last March Update.
I spent the whole morning cleaning the PC and renewing the thermal paste (it really needed), and also I reinstalled the game.
I’m gonna try it later with the Volumetrics clouds on Low/Off and I never had HAGS enabled anyway.
You probably could have saved yourself the time of reinstalling seeing as it’s most likely something hardware/temperature related.
Let us know how it went though.
hmmm… I would only mention that also the MS windows update cause issue like “reboot” ( but then not only in-game ).
But in case the “Volumetrics clouds on Low/Off” hint will realy helps , you are more by a thermo issue and with this setting you lower the load and this in result lower the temp
Ok I’m here back again,
The problem seems fixed now. I’m running MSI Afterburner while playing to test and these are the data from it:
MFS Graphics: Full Medium. Flight: LEAL to LEIB (Spain, about 30min)
GPU temp: 72º, 70 to 95% of usage (inside towns or in the middle of the sea)
Video Memory: 3500Mb
CPU Temp: 65-70º
(Also, I’m playing while using Chrome, watching Twitch, etc.)
What I did was:
- Full cleaning of my PC (it has a “some” dust and also the thermal paste was totally expired)
- Reinstalled the game in a specific folder instead of the default from Microsoft.
I bet its more because of the huuge difference of temperature, but who knows.
Hope this solutions remains and don’t crashes again xD
Have good flights captains (and sorry for my bad english, I’m from Spain!
)
good to hear you’ve got it sorted out. The old thermal paste might very well have been the cause.
Enjoy the skies!
