PC Shutting Down when start flying?

PC System MB: ROG Maximus XIII Hero. CPU: Intel i9-11900K, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB. GPU: Founders GF RTX 3090. SSD: Corsair Gen4 2TB. PSU: Corsair 860 AX (860w). Cooler: Corsair Hydro H100i. Just updated FS2020, the Bios, the Nvidia drivers, and Win 11 to 22H2. I suspect it to be either a PSU or a Cooler problem? The Event Viewer at time of shut down shows ‘X’ Critical - Kernal-Power’. The FS settings (buildings, water, clouds, ect.) are set to Ultra in 4K. The CPU, RAM and GPU should be able to handle these settings. Any advice Please.

Hello
I would say PSU.
But if you have several USB connected try to remove them all and try to see without them connected.

IfsPC restarting after shut down? Any way 99% of PC reboot issues are PSU related

Thanks. Yes, tried removing all USB devices (except KB and Mouse), including Saitek X52 flight controller. I have contacted Scan PC about this, waiting to hear. Almost sure it is the PSU that needs replacing.

Thanks. It shuts down and re-starts automatically. You have re-assured me that it is the PSU.

I had the same issue. Random reboots only using MSFS (not other games) especially using the FENIX. PSU was only 1.5 year old. I changed it and issue disappeared.

I’m getting the same issue. Probably will have to upgrade my PSU

The graphics settings in FS does affect the power drain. When I turn the FS graphics down to medium or high then the PC does not shut down. With a i9-11900K, RTX3090 and FS ultra settings, a 850w PSU is pushed just beyond its limits. I have spoken to Scan PCs, and they agree the PSU is more than likely causing the shutdown. As long as I am not planning any upgrades, they recommend a 1000w PSU. Cleaning all the fans, increasing fan speeds, clean off the thermal past on the CPU and apply a fresh generous coat of thermal paste. The CPU thermal paste becomes less affective over time. That should cure the PC shutdown problem.

Hi,

Hope you doing great, so I 10000% sure is PSU as I have had same spec system except 2080 ti at that time, and my PSU was RM 850 gold it just did not like to play games as I had random restarts, they way I sorted just bought new PSU EVGA supernova 1000w gold and just enjoy my new PSU and my upgraded PC as now I run on EVGA Rtx 3090 FTW3 Ultra V2 and my cpu is OCD 5.3Ghz not to mention as per above :point_up_2:t2: my cpu is same 11900k and ram same amount 32GB 3600mhz, get new PSU and enjoy your setup

I had the same exact configuration. I swapped my corsair PSU to a same 850w rog and issue never came back. Note that a 850w should be plenty for a 3090 but sometimes PSU components can deteriorate with time ( condensers etc…)

Bought new desk wired up tower. FS kept crashing during flight. There was a drawer above tower. Even though I thought it had enough air circulation it didn’t. As dumb as it sounds I moved tower other side of desk and works great now. Hope this helps someone.

I had this problem for a while. RAM problems can cause it, so I swapped ram, which didn’t fix it. Temps were good, so it wasn’t over heating. I put a new PSU in and the problem went away for about a year. (From 600w cooler master to a 850w EVGA G2) I decided to dig deeper and learned that the problem can also be caused from bad GPU drivers…well I constantly experience driver problems. I’ve never been able to update my [AMD] GPU drivers without it running into a error. WIN and AMD where fighting to be the one who installs it. I used DDU, as well as followed JayzTwoCents instructions on preventing windows from installing GPU drivers. Win still tries to install them tho, so I got a program from Microsoft (shared to a windows help forum) that can hide certain available updates. So far, fingers crossed, fixing the drivers seems to have solved the PC shutting down/restarting problem for me. It makes me think my other PSU might’ve been fine too.
