I had to reconfigure my graphics to get smooth play.
So, while noting the update is different, why not configure for smooth flight so you can enjoy the sim more, and see if you notice any other differences for better or worse?
In my case, it looks a little better. YMMV.
What’s the point of beta testing if you are just going to keep your settings stagnant and complain that things changed around you? Of course they did. You joined the beta because things were changed. No?
The point of beta testing is to report bugs and regressions from the previous build, and this is what I’m doing. In the end the developers will decide how to deal with it, but if I see something that I think isn’t right I’m not going to just let it go and not say a word.
I can’t recall seeing 100% in any version (personally), and if people’s claims of reduction in performance are true, I guess it didn’t help things (for some people).
Exactly. I just reported a noticeable loss of perfomance on my system without any change of settings made. I certainly could take down TLOD to a point where it’s smooth, but I thought testing is done to find any regressions over the previous version, isn’t it? And as I said, taxiing in GA at KSFO was absolutely fine on my system in SU8.
I just tested KSFO with the A32NX, live weather and live traffic. All was good no performance loss. Minimal stutters here and there but pretty smooth overall
Or improvements. And we don’t really know unless we try.
Not really much of a beta TEST if you do nothing.
If you don’t think you are allowed to change things during beta you have been misinformed.
You noted your issue. It is on record. Now you can try to quell it. It would also be useful for beta purposes to see if you can fix the issue with the settings given to you, and see if your fidelity improves or decreases with the fix.
And a TLOD of 300 has caused stutters for folks since it was introduced. If you didn’t have stutters until now, that was incredibly lucky, and your Main Thread was already being pushed to the limit. Anyone with settings too high for their CPU Main Thread to keep up with them encounters this issue at one time or another. And the sim tends to look virtually identical to how it looked before but smoother once properly configured. And isn’t that what we all want from the sim?
The only folks I know who haven’t benefited from this fix when they encounter stutters are the folks who refuse to fix their own stutters by reconfiguring their sim for their Main Thread after encountering said stutters. Or I hear back from them a week later, “Oh, wow. You were right. The sim has never run better!”
This whole area was flagged by me in SU8 as needing another pass to fix performance and mesh issues. Get this fixed already. The entire mesh all the way to Seattle was damaged on the coast. Perf drops at KSFO happened with Australia update when they added more landmarks. Clearly someone broke the mesh and a few other things as I flagged invisible objects at Oakland on the runway too.
I can find settings that work smooth too. Admittedly, my custom settings (mostly a combination of high/ultra) are too high for this airport, but fine for other areas.
My settings are ultra and high in 4K. But also performed a flight from KSNA to KSFO with the A32NX in VR (settings low, medium and some high and ultra in 4100 pixels and was still very smooth.
Just went KAPC to KSFO in the Arrow III with the Xbox FPS counter running. Getting 55fps until the last 3/4 miles when it dropped to mid-30s with a big pop-in of building near airport. Why am I getting these FPS when I limit the FPS to 30 in the sim?! Intel I7-12800H, RTX3060, 16GB with settings ‘High’ except for Buildings, Texture Resolution, Clouds & Windshiedl set to ‘Ultra’. TLOD is 100. Flight was smooth and good, this is with latest SU9
The FPS limiter in the game is implemented as the simplest DXGI present interval. It’s not a true CPU-wait based FPS limiter. It’s entirely dependent on refresh rate.
