I’m starting a new topic rather than adding to “Massive FPS drop because of SU9” as I believe this is a new issue, possibly related to the recent CTDs (which I have also experienced).
On every flight I’ve done since 18th August, I’ve had a significant drop in FPS around 30 minutes after departure. The flights always start well, with good framerates and no stuttering. Then the deterioration in performance begins with slight stutters, only obvious when panning around the aircraft, before developing into significant visual and sound stutters, with frames dropping as low as 4fps. This has sometimes, but not always, led to a CTD. This has happened in the CRJ, Fenix A320 and B737 (the only planes I have tested so far), at various locations across Europe. Prior to this date, the sim was running smoothly throughout.
I have tried the following to fix it:
Removing all mods apart from the aircraft I’m flying and the airports I’m flying between
Updating GPU drivers
Running Windows Update (as suggested in the ntdll.dll CTD post) and downloading all optional updates
Closing all apps apart from the sim
Turning down graphics settings
Turning off live weather
Turning off all online services
Deleting the rolling cache (which I always leave off anyway)
Changing servers
None of this has made any difference.
While I could not find a thread related to this on here, I know that several members of my community are experiencing the same thing, and that their issues began at the same time as mine.
Ive been experiencing the same. I avg around 45fps normally. A simple VFR flight across south UK flying the C152 I ended up dropping to 11fps whilst landing at a simple grass airstrip.
Shutdown the game and restarted PC. Back to 45fp for my next short trip. Weird.
Wonder if related to the ‘server side’ issue that is causing the CTDs at the moment.
I’m having the same issue but without FPS drop - stuttering and sound crackling since yesterday “fix”.
For testing purpose reinstall all audio drivers and restart system.
PRO TIP - do not, do not, do not install or update audio and gpu drivers via windows update!
1 Look for drivers on the manufacturer’s website and download latest audio drivers.
for e.g sound blaster https://support.creative.com/
2 Go to device manager and disable lan and/or wifi card.
3 Uninstall audio drivers and restart pc.
4 Install audio drivers > restart pc.
5 Enable lan and/or wifi card.
After that turn off audio enhancements and restart system.
Right-click the speaker icon and press open sound settings.
From dropdown menu select your audio device. Click device properties > additional device properties.
Click advanced tab and uncheck “enable audio enhancements” > apply > ok > restart system.
Do the same for all audio devices.
Thank you. I use on-board audio but was running a generic driver and have updated to the latest Realtek one, following your instructions. I’ll take a plane for a spin when I have time and let you know.
I kind of assume it must be related - too much of a coincidence for it not to be. I also assumed that that meant it would be fixed when the CTDs were fixed, but the CTDs seem to be becoming less frequent while we’re still stuck here with this issue.
And all good. Until I was in late climb then my FPS gradually dropped. Seems to be a time thing for me.
As a a bit of a test I chose a flight and didnt click the fly now button but left the cinematics for a couple of hours. When I returned to PC I was sub 10fps and couldnt exit the game. Weird.
Right, I have fixed it! It was not the audio drivers, nor the video drivers, it was the fact that I had YourControls installed. I thought I’d got rid of all my add-ons but I hadn’t spotted this one because I use MSFS Addons Linker and had everything deactivated for my testing, but YourControls was directly in the community folder. So there it is - anyone with YourControls, get rid!
Also check if all CPU Cores are still activated in the Windows configuration. Apparrently one of the regular Windows Updates switched it to only one core which caused heavy stutters in graphics and audio.
did not help, thx anyway. good find. but same fps degradation. really si.. of this sim honestly! even p3d is much more stable and not full of bugs and poor performance.
hmm, poor performance was a reason for me to quit P3D, and I was surprised that the performance in MSFS was better despite the better graphics.
I had these stutters too for some time but now after trying out some graphics settings, I’m very happy even with the performance of the PMDG 737.
The problem with MSFS is that there are so many factors that can influence the performance and you get no feedback what the problem is that it sometimes lasts very long until you find the correct settings.
Have you tried different (older) NVIDIA drivers ? Sometimes the latest are not the best ones !
