Performance Different with different RAM on 7000X3D line of CPUs

I currently have a 7900x3d, 6800xt and 16x2 5200CL38 kit of RAM. I am wondering if there will be any sort of performance difference from upgrading to a 16x2 6000CL30 kit of ram (and if so, how significant will the performance difference be?)

The X3D line is less dependent on faster RAM compared to the rest of the 7000 series due to the extra cache the CPU has, but then again I have no idea how that fairs for MSFS.

Anyone here have any sort of experience of how faster RAM fares for MSFS?
I am limited by mainthread.

I have a 7800X3D and the difference passing from 4800 MHz to 6000 MHz (CL36) is about 10% (from 50 to 55 fps with the A310 at EDDF25C - main thread limited conditions).
In GPU limited scenarios it’s negligible.

You’re technically correct, but MSFS is also very CPU limited so faster RAM generally is always beneficial, particularly to improve the 1% lows.

I purchased some DDR5-7200 XMP for my Asrock X670E Taichi/7900x3d and I can attest to a very smooth sim experience :+1: :+1:.

Be careful though to select memory from your motherboards qualified vendors list as it will always provide you with a higher probability that your memory will be compatible.

My experience with increasing the speed and amount. It’s a improvement!

This is my experience as well, although with DDR5 8000 on an Intel system. The IMC on the 14900K is very hit and miss, but was able to fine tune the voltages to get 8000 MT/s stable on Y-cruncher VT3. I never was able to do a proper comparison, but the 1% lows were significantly improved going from 6400 to 8000 MT/s and is very noticeable.

Not to hijack this thread, but will leave this here for anyone interested:

One way to get a rough idea is to configure your RAM to run comparatively slower by the same amount your intended upgrade will run faster. eg. Try running at 4400CL46 and see how much faster your system is at your usual 5200CL38. That should give you a rough idea of what going up to 6000CL30 will do for you.

I’d like to thank everyone for their help! I got DDR5 6000CL30 in my system now and am getting on average 18 fps more than before (ini OMDB, PMDB 738, TLOD OLOD 200, everything on ULTRA besides motionblur).

Looks like MSFS being very CPU intensive also means it needs fast RAM to get the most out of your CPU. I cannot believe how much I was missing out on by cheaping out on RAM.

If you stumble upon this thread and are on any AMD cpu, go for the best RAM possible.

Well done - glad to see the faster memory work out for you!! :sunglasses: :upside_down_face:

Those are some very impressive numbers!!! I could easily OC my DDR5-7200 memory to 7600 MT/s and could have probably hit 7800 with some fine tuning but any stress test that hit AVX512 instructions hard (e.g. prime95) caused instability. Seeing your numbers has rekindled a desire to go turn off AVX512 and hit the higher memory speeds :smirk:

That’s great! I’m interested in the percentage improvement you achieved. What FPS were you getting before?

IIRC, I was averaging 48-49 fps before I upgraded at ini OMDB and it’s around 66-68fps after the upgrade.
