Performance Regression?

I have noticed a regression in performance in the SU1beta, anyone else?

Presuming this is related to the draw distance and ground textures being better.

If this is the case, then I have no issues with it at all. It is better for the sim to have as good as graphics as possible and for people to turn their own settings down if they are dissatisfied with their performance, rather than forcing everybody’s graphics down.

I would much rather the sim be future proof for when better hardware is available, and people able to have great performance with great graphics rather the the graphics than dumbed down but people have better performance as was the case with 2020.

Also noticed a performance regression here.

Hardware - 4070ti Super, Ryzen 7800X3D, 64GBs RAM

Would be nice if Asobo could look into it and make sure it isn’t an issue introduced in the beta by accident😊

I agree with this - up to a point.

This new streaming model (along with the promise of greatly improved multi-core, multi-thread code) was supposed to deliver improved graphics and improved performance. They quickly realized that the improved graphics were causing ‘some users’ to be unable to play the game with acceptable frame rates and to endure massive stuttering as well.

So they drastically reduced the LOD (after patch#2, I think,) in effect putting a governor on a high performance car. If SU1 Beta has removed (or at least reduced) the LOD limitation, that’s a good thing. As you point out, some users will need to sacrifice visual quality for acceptable performance, and that’s an unfortunate truth.

The problem is that (almost) everyone - at least those who meet the “Recommended Specitifications” - should be able to get good frame rates, superb graphics, and smooth, stutter-free gameplay. Microsobo seems stuck between a rock and a hard place, as they realize that their dreams of equality have not, and probably never can come true.

I think we’re all realizing that this sim really is hardware limited, and those users who are on the lower end of the computing spectrum are becoming frustrated with the compromises in quality and performance they’re being forced to accept. Hopefully SU1 Beta is at least restoring the sim’s promise for those with higher-end systems.

I feel like the performance in generic scenery is reasonable, however when flying in the new vexcel countryside TIN areas the performance is abysmal, probably due to the lod system not being optimized for that type of scenery.

I get around 50% less fps in countryside TIN locations compared to generic scenery.
Try flying close to the Säntis mountains in Switzerland.

I think an option to turn TIN areas on or off just like photogrammetry would be good.
At least until they’ve been optimized.

I truly appreciate every change that enhances LOD and improves the overall visual quality of MSFS 2024/2020 especially when it pushes my gaming rig to its limits. After all, that’s the reason we keep investing in our hobbies, including purchasing newer and faster CPU, GPU, RAM …, right? Of course, players with more limited budgets can always adjust the settings and I believe game developers should focus on fine-tuning the maximum settings to achieve the best possible visual experience while still providing options for those who don’t have top-tier hardware.

I’m finding just the opposite - great fps, minimal stuttering (micro stutters for the most part), almost no scenery popping and best of all very smooth.

On my second PC with a 5900x cpu with 32gig ram/7700xt gpu with 12gig vram, I’m amazed how well it runs the sim now. The 7700xt is a great 2k (1440p) gpu but a poor 4k gpu due to its 12gig of vram and lower rasterization capabilities. I flew over Tokyo, NY, and London in 4k (FSR2 balanced/HDR on/High settings) and while it struggled at the airports, once I got up into the air it was amazing (see pic below). Seemed the vram was managed very well even though it exceeded its limits at times.

May I ask what exactly is your regression - fps/stuttering?

It’s a hit and a miss for me, the LOD and ground textures have improved massively for me in the beta, I have a 7800X3D paired with an rx7800XT 16GB GPU and 64gb ddr5 ram at 6000mhz. With frame gen activated I average between 80-120 fps depending where I am. Graphics are set between high/ultra. Since the beta my FPS have been great, vram has been under the limit however I am noticing some micro stutters depending what aircraft I am in. I’ve recently downloaded the just flight Vulcan, which on 2020 uses very little vram, on 2024 it’s between 14/15GB vram usage but I’m getting alot of micro stuttering when flying. Airliners are still somewhat a struggle for me ( A330, Beluga etc ) however the fenix is running well. I’m unsure if this is part of the vram leaks causing this? After using 2024 I find that 2020 doesn’t do it for me anymore so I’m hoping this is something that can be fixed :see_no_evil:.

With a bit of research I think the worse performance I am seeing is probably due to my RAM being used up.

Two more sticks arriving tomorrow so will see how that goes.

Does this mean that you will have 4 RAM sticks in total?

Yeah. Got 2x16 so just ordered another 2.

thanks, i was looking for this
countryside tin, one of the big ticket items in 2024 that are not in 2020
is there a map or something with all the countryside tin areas?

I just got back into the game after a few months, and I’m very frustrated. I was looking for answers on the forum to see if anyone else has encountered the same issue. The performance feels terrible, textures aren’t loading, it almost feels like I’m offline, textures pop in and out at close range, the image has become blurry, and I can barely read the text on the dashboard. What’s going on? Was there a downgrade to make us buy MSFS 2024? No, I won’t buy anything—I was happy with 2020. These companies nowadays are a bad joke.

I’m not sure what CPU you have - if it’s a Ryzen, for example, these processors don’t really work well with 4 sticks of memory unless it’s a matched kit.

See here [MSFS2024] List of new VEXCEL areas (work in progress)

Before the SU1 Beta,

I could run all on Ultra, 4K at butterysmooth 60fps.

Now with the beta, I got stutters as hell. Every 20-25sec.

My gpu has now a load of 98-99% before it was 75-85%. Still got 60fps out of it, but stuttery.

Now used NVIDIA inspector and limited FPS to 45.

Now I got 75-85% usage if gpu, stable 45 fps and no stutters.

Before the beta I was able to be running around 300TLOD and maintaining 70fps which is what I like for smoothness, in complex aircraft - Fenix. After beta I cant even get to 70 with 150.

Same for me, with the beta and LOD 200 and can barely hit 30fps with the Fenix

I’m wondering if you are testing MSFS 2024_beta or the aircraft from Fenix? Performance tests for MSFS 2024_beta make sense with an empty Community folder, without additional software like Spandnext, AAO, FSUIPC etc. It’s best to test with a default aircraft, for example Cessna 152. Of course, we should forget that software like MSI Afterburner, Nvidia Profile Inspector, Nvidia app and all others that have an impact on the game and GPU drivers exist.

I‘ve tested with the sim in its vanilla state if SU1 and noticed the decrease in performance.

Then I started to look for a solution with the tools I have.
Getting it to a smooth flight, with the bad performance of SU1beta, was only possible by limiting the FPS, which I didn’t had to do before SU1.

The test with the Fenix was only to see what happens when it’s loaded.

I just opt out of SU1.
Had to do a reinstall because sim hook up when I was in the menu.

Now reinstalled. With same settings like before my GPU is at 21% !!! 60FPS STABLE and SMOOTH…
What the heck is going on….
